Wow!!Found a gem at my new sushi spot tonight!!Not sure if this is the right beer Iím reviewing under though?Bottle was blue and fat.Description is hefeweizen style brewed from accumulated water from some mountain in Japan(damn I should have wrote this down...)Anyway pours a perfect yellow/golden color with a crazy banana-bomb nose!Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy medium body.Finish is long and slightly sweet. This is new to the Atlanta market so I will re-taste in the coming days but right now I think I have found the best wheat beer Iíve ever tasted.......

Drank from the bottle under the name Silver Bottle according to the brewers English version website, this beer was an unexpectedly delicious. Fruity and yeast aromas coming from a pillowy white head on top of a cloudy orange pour. Taste is a well-balanced mix of wheat malt and yeast with some fruity notes. Note quite as complex as a German Hefeweizen, but really nice just the same. Yeast notes linger on the tongue. If you can figure out the labeling, this is a beer worth trying.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2004 Bottle: Had the opportunity to sample this one back on Nov of 2002 when my roomie brought one back from Japan. All I can say is WOW! I only have mental notes from this one, but from what I remember it was by far the best Japanese beer I have had to date. Very much like a German Wheat beer, and in some cases much better than other German Wheats. It also seemed to be a bit spiced, much like a Belgian Wit. I wish I had one right now to give a more accurate description, but overall this was a fantastic brew! Highly recommended if you are in the land of the rising sun.

Wow. Completely surpirsed by this beer! Exceptional light but tasty hefe flavor. Certainly not something that you would anticipate for a Japanese beer. It is lighter than a typical German Hefe, but very ioce flavor. My one downfall of the beer is the lack of head and lacing. There is none. Slightly flat and unspirited.

Thanks to Islandhaole for this one. Pours hazy canary with big, white head. Aroma of huge banana, cloves, bubblegum, hopcit. Tastes weissy, with the same flavors as aromas. Smooth palate, nice balance, and wonderful complexity. Just outstanding. Shove some sushi in my mouth and call me Yoshi!

10.1oz blue bottle...which is actually the "silver" bottle...makes no sense. label states "ginga kogen beer. imported" and looks nothing like the picture. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out which beer i was drinking to say the least. the website would have helped, except its in japanese. after deciphering the package riddle i was surprised to find a pretty good beer inside. the aroma is nice with lots of vanilla, banana, and spices. a cross between a belgian white and a german hefe aroma. itís very cloudy gold under a small creamy white head. flavor is vanilla cake, banana, lemon and cinnamon. medium bodied and refreshing with a nice creamy palate.

Bottle from Matsuma (I think thatís the name of it) in San Diego. Didnít really want to spend the 5 bucks on this 12 oz (or less) bottle, but now Iím glad I did. 1st of all, the bottle is beautiful. My wife wants to keep this one. Then the beer. Seriously thick haze in an orange-amber pour. Nose is lotsa yeasty citrus goodness. Cloves and white wine. Taste is lovely. Citrus/lemon and tart yeastiness. White wine and allspice. Ginger and apples. Really nice.

Hazy golden coloured body with a very thin and fast-dying white head. Aroma of wheat, yeast, curacao, dough and a bit of funk. Medium-bodied; Great full mouthful with a lot of wheat and banana flavours coming through, a touch of clove and coriander seed and a little sweetness on the tail end from bubble gum. Aftertaste nice and refreshing with a little spices, but mostly sweet and bright flavours to show off. Overall, a nice beer for sure, great to sample and one for sure that if I didnít know where it came from - I would have guessed Germany - a nice beer, especially for the country of origin and the style. I sampled this 300 mL bottle purchased at CitySuper! Grocery Store in Hong Kong (two IFC) on 10-August-2010 sampled at home on the other side of the world in Washington on 31-March-2011 - after the horrible events on 11-March-2011 in Japan - I figured Iíd round out the month by drinking this in honour. Good luck to you Japan.
