Case (90) - GERMANY - MAR 11, 2009
Dark brown pour with a small quickly receding head. Fresh funky aroma. Taste is very funky, lots of horseblanket, moderately sour, dry. Unlike the few other faros I have tried this one has only very little sweetness. For some reason this didn’t really meet my expectations, it’s too sweet for a Gueuze but not sweet enough for a Faro (or at least what my idea of Faro is).

Thanks OldStyleCubFan for sharing. Pours a bubbly ruby colored brew with a two finger creamy offwhite head. The nose was sweet, had a tart vinous character, raisiny, light earthy character. The flavor is tart and vinous, has a candy like sweetness that coexists with the tart and acidic qualities of the base lambic.

JCB (2918) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 30, 2008
Sampled at the Carolina Crew tasting thanks to OldStyleCubFan - thanks, Todd! It pours a fine amber/garnet color with fine carbonation. The nose is initially deep and floral, but deepens with a soft, mead-like quality. While there are dry, tart undertones to the taste, the muscat and honey notes come through to make this a delicious blend, with a nicely bitter finish. Really fine, a happy introduction to the style.

Thanks to Todd for sharing with the Carolina Crew. Deep mahogany pour with small bubbly white head. Sour lambic nose but backed up by a caramel sweetness. Some leather and earthy sweet vegetal notes. Easy to drink and quite sessionable. Slightly overcarbonated palate, I thought.

Pours deep copper with small light brown head. Very pleasant acidic aroma. Excellent tartness with a sweeter touch than other lambics. Nasty aftertaste from the artificial sweetener costs a few marks.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2010 bottle by way of glouglouburp.1/20/2008

rich copper colored pour with a short lived vigorous white head. seems pretty dark, no? it smells sweet and grainy yet still tart and dusty... aromas include caramel, cement, leather and red apple cider with warming spices. same thing goes for the flavor.... it*s a mix of sweet and sour i*ve not yet sampled. flavors of sweet bruised red apples, caramel, dust, copper/minerals and yeast with a mild soft tartness. the finish is dry and grainy with some cinnamon creeping in as it warms. medium to rich bodied. it*s rather thick and oily but parching and dry at the same time.

neato... 8/4.5/7.5/4/16/4.0

bottle 1/2/2010 from nbutler11 it smells incredibly slate-y/mineraly with a ton of sweet caramel grain. the flavor is full of apple, raisin and fruity sweetness with funky dusty yeast lingering in the background. again, full bodied but still dry... 8/4/8/4/16/4.0

Sample courtesy of hellbilly. Aroma reminded me of pitching silage from the silo as a kid. Bronse body with off white head. Good mix of sout, tart and fruits like lambic style. Thanks Josh

Bottle shared by hellbilly. Deep amber-red pour with a foamy light head. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, apples, yeast and lemons. Flavor starts sweet and malty, but there is some sourness lurking in the back. Finish is fruity and somewhat spicy. It sort of goes in every possible direction, but very nice overall. Thanks for my first Faro Josh!
