3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 lagomswedish (213) - Umeå, SWEDEN - JAN 9, 2007
Bottle from Ölbuttiken, Copenhagen. This is my first Lambic Faro and I was expecting a sugary sweet beer with mild sourness. In reality this is actually very pleasantly balanced, with restrained sweetness and a medium tart finish wrapped up in a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel.
Poured a hazy hazelnut with a frothy white head into a nucleated glass, so the head stayed until the bitter end. Nice sticky lacing.
Smell of apple, grapefruit and wet rope, with a splash of vinegar and a dollop of vanilla. Taste is citrus sharp up front, a burst of apples in the middle and a tasteful sour finish. The nice chap at Ölbuttiken said this was a good entry point for those unfamiliar with lambics – and I think he’s right.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Belgo (154) - Køge, DENMARK - AUG 16, 2005
Bottle. Youghurt-like sourness. Very sweet on the palate and again with the feeling of drinking youghurt. A waste of good lambic.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Nocturne (142) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2012
375ml bottle. Copper shade and a decent amount of head. Nose is lemony with some of the sugar coming through. There are sour sensations at the start and finish of a sip, but it’s a very restrained sourness. In between the beer opens itself up, with a decent honey, lemon and caramel type character. Not a great deal of complexity though. This beer, my first faro, may not have been overly exciting, but I’m glad to have been introduced to the style.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ygberg (139) - SWEDEN - OCT 17, 2009

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 LanceUppercut (139) - SWEDEN - OCT 18, 2009
A nose of vanilla, vinegar, oak, and lemon detergent for dish washing. Taste is of oak, apples, metal and funk. It’s sweet and a little bit sour. Finish is dry. Hmmm... I don’t know what to make of this.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Case (100) - GERMANY - MAR 11, 2009
Dark brown pour with a small quickly receding head. Fresh funky aroma. Taste is very funky, lots of horseblanket, moderately sour, dry. Unlike the few other faros I have tried this one has only very little sweetness. For some reason this didn’t really meet my expectations, it’s too sweet for a Gueuze but not sweet enough for a Faro (or at least what my idea of Faro is).
