0.375l bottle. This is crystal clear deep red body with a fading bubbly and light lacing pinkish head. The aroma has lots of sweet raspberries mixed with some wet grass and woody currants. Interesting. In the flavor it starts off quite acidic and sour with lemon and bitter old wet wood and raspberries, then it continues with a more sweet profile. Sweet raspberries and even some strawberries. Woody and a hint of moss and some cellar fungi. Not a favorite in the framboise genre, but it grows on you. 04.08.2012

August 10, 2014. Bottle, 2014 vintage. Pours red with a small slightly pinkish head, Aroma is tart raspberries, lemon, barnyard, slight yoghurt notes. Taste is medium tart and funky with citrus, vinegar, barnyard and light to medium raspberries. Finish is medium tart raspberries. Medium bodied, light powdery notes in the finish, average carbonation.

Bottle acquired from La Cave a Bulles in Paris. Poured in my hotel room in Antwerp. Pours a deep reddish pink color with a small, quickly receding, pinkish white head. Aroma is lots of sweet, sweet raspberries, just a hint of tartness, a little bit of medicinal notes but not bad. Flavor is lots of very sweet raspberry, but this still has the expected funky sour gueuze in there that puckers you up. Returns to very sweet raspberry on the palate, with just a hint of medicinal note. Light to medium bodied, medium plus carbonation. Overall the raspberries could be dialed back a bit here to let the funky gueuze shine through. But overall not bad at all.

Pours ruby-tinted copper with a pink-tinged head. Nose shows authentic raspberries with a little funk in the background. Flavours focus on sweet raspberry jam at first followed by a pronounce, balancing bitterness. Perhaps just a little on the sweet side overall. Nice moderately high carbonation works well.

Fin rød farge. Syrlig duft av kirsebær. Tynt lag hvit skum. Syrlig fin smak av kirsebær.

This lambic-style pours bright pink. Strong raspberry taste. Not quite as sour as the Girardin Kriek (cherry) version not sweet either. Has a biting dryness without the astringency of the Kriek. Could be refreshing when served chilled. It does not have the ’wild’ tastes of some lambic beers.

Alengrin (1716) - BELGIUM - AUG 19, 2014
Classic framboise with thinnish, off-white head and dark orangey red robe. Lots of rewarding lambic funkiness in the nose but in an elegant way, drenched in loads of fresh strawberries, woody, vinegary, lemony notes, barnyard, ’wild’. Tart taste teeming with fresh fruit, very fresh and crisp, bit funky, no disturbing artificial sweetness, long and complex, woody lambic finish. Authentic.

Bottle from etregourmet.be webshop. Pours a clear orange-hued deep pink body with a medium creamy white head. Nose is tart raspberries, cherry pits, red fruits, lemon acid and hints of barnyard funk, hay and citric peel. Taste is tart raspberries, lemon acid, mild apple vinegar and hints of barnyard funk, hay and dry lemony citric tones. Medium body, medium to high carbonation. Lovely, clean and tart Framboise from Girardin, very refreshing indeed; accessible and high in drinkability.

From bottle had Cardinal. Bright red. Not much head, as is standard in this style. Strong and refreshing aroma of raspberries. Similarly fine and refreshing taste. Dry and slightly sour. Well balanced with good drinkability, but not as complex as the top examples of this style.

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Copper/redish color, cloudy. Aroma of raspberries. Good balance between sour and sweet.
