tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA May 28, 2008 Really nice aroma on this beer. I’m only just getting into sours and I think they are starting to grow on me. This is a great example. Sour apple aroma, as well as a barnyard funkiness. Murky golden pour with chunks evident. Not the sour puckering flavor of some in this style, but that is definitely a good thing. Very good in fact. May be my favorite sour to date. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 27, 2008 Small sample at OSLO and Guerde’s tasting on Friday, 5-23-08. Labeled as "Gueuze Girardin 1882." Pours a hazy gold with a small amount of beige head. Sharp, salty, lemon, and sour apple aroma. Dry, quite sour flavor. Very cool, different sort of taste that reminds me of tonic water (I mean that as a compliment). Bitter finish. Fizzy in the palate. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA May 27, 2008 Updated: Jun 17, 2008Bottle with Pwn3d. Pours a great body - hazy orange with small white head, and sediment settling on the bottom of the glass. The aroma is horse stable, yeast, and some tart. The taste is epic - very tart, sour, citrus, sweet, and spritzer at the same time, complex. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA May 26, 2008 Nice tart aroma, with a bit of underlying funk. Pours a clear light amber, with a large quickly fading white head. Nice tart flavor, hints of green apples and lemons, light on the palate and very dry. Overall, a very good gueuze. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway May 25, 2008 37,5 cl bottle. Hazy golden/amber color, white head. Aroma is sour. Flavor is sour, wood, some sweetnes from malt. Vinous. Balanced. Very nice! Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 23, 2008 Updated: May 26, 2008Sampled at OSLO/Guerde’s Memorial Day tasting. Pours a semi-hazy golden amber gueuze with a fizzy white head that has nice retention and a thick white ring. Aroma of sour barnyard funk, yeast, grapefruit, wet blanket and some white pepper. Taste is spritzy tart citrus zest, yeast, a touch of grapefruit, some floral character and a touch of herbs. Finish is just as sour as its flavor with a very dry citrus and light skonk character. One of the funkiest gueuzes I’ve tried. Rciesla (3515), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours golden brown. A slot of sour funkiness in this one. Belgian yeast, and spoiled fruit. Nice tingling mouth cleansing mouth feel. A solid number. BritAlesRule (84), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 18, 2008 Ah, the golden goddess. Aroma of band-aids soaking in something sterile and medicinal along with some woody brine. Mouthfeel is tremendous. My tongue is not worthy of this. Bracing rubber and grapefruit tang near the end of a beautifully intoxicating session on my tastebuds. Truly, this is a world classic. I liked the 3 Fonteinen, but this is way out front of that. Desert Island beer!
