JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA May 16, 2008 Golden color with a med-large head. Aroma is tremendous - funky and sour with some nice barrel effects and citrusy goodness. Flavor was a bit heavy on the citrus at first, but settled nicely into a funky-sour masterpiece - citrus, earth, and wood. Nice mouthfeel with a good pucker factor. A really good gueuze that I need more of. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 Delicious gueuze and all it’s cracked up to be. Thanks, mcbackus! Aroma was big and nice. Strong funk, barnyard floor and wet blanket. Pour was a nice bubbly orange with a pillowy 2 finger off white head. Taste was nice and mouth puckering. Strong wood, earth and funk with a hint of cheese and vinegar. Complex and absolutely delicious. Heaven in a bottle. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA May 14, 2008 Pours golden with a medium white head. Aroma of sour fruit, yeast, wood. Well carbonated. Flavor of sour and tart fruits with a bit of yeast. Great balance. Nice mouthfeel. Very good. airforce1 (61), Atascosa, Texas, USA May 14, 2008 I love this beer. Slightly sour, barn yardy with lots of funk. Very Hazy, bolnde slightly Orange colour. Perfect beer for Early mornings on a hot summer day. Extremely refreshing! BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 13, 2008 Don’t have pets so the "cat pee smell" I can’t truly associate with. This beer is a hazy gold with a small white ring of a head. Aroma is extremely sour with hints of grapefruit and oak. Taste is extremely puckering...you can feel it in the jaw and throat. Interesting but I probably wouldn’t purchase again...especially at the $$$. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA May 13, 2008 Updated: May 29, 2008I fail to understand the true appeal of the lambic. These beers are so incredibly expensive and heavily aged--lets get some barley wines with 2 years of age on them by default.
This one was very sweet and intensely, brutally, overwhelmingly acidic. Exactly like drinking Sprite with vinegar. Much grapiness in the flavors also, like sour cherry champagne that is foot-in-mouth bitter. I really like this beer however, and since Impy Stout and Barley Wine are the only styles I judge by style and not flavor, I will have to reluctantly rate this very high. chimplechamp (463), Oslo, Norway May 12, 2008 bottle thanks to tom- pours cloudy real cloudy, amber, big creamy, white offwhite head, nose isnt as big as some of the other gueze ive had, tastes sour strawberry, sour cherry, lemon rind, complex but i think maybe a bit too sour for my taste to have on it’s own. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA May 4, 2008 Corked and caged. Classic gueuze nose, slightly metallic yeast. Sour with slight wood. Dark golden pour with a dense, rocky, tiny-bubbled, noise beige head and champagne-like clinging to the undersides of the glass. Laces. with legs. Taste is strongly sour and medially sweet, slight citrus (along the lines of grapefruit) along with faint muscat, wood, and puckering tartness. Slight dish-soapy champagne tone (the flavor, not a negative). Medium body, smooth and malty other than the initial burst of sparkle. Dry and water-sucking. Mouth and throat are left dry and sated for some time after drinking. Touch of lemon cleaner and floral notes with the bend of leather. Complexity of the sour wood makes this a winner. Not over the top and offensive - though not tame - and one of the most refreshing (drinkable! quenching!) gueuzes around. Superb.
