KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2009 Pouts a hazy dark orange color with a thin white head. Aroma is funk, citrus, a little bit of band-aid, but not terrible. Flavor is beautiful, bright and tart with a great almost lemon kick. Palate is dry without being overwhelming and the tart notes in this beer hit the tongue perfectly. Fantastic Gueuze. jfb (413), Weihenstephan, Germany Sep 11, 2009 (bottle) pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a frothy white head and great lacing. aroma is beautifully citric with some subdued funk and light pale malts. flavour is the same, very drinkable, with a lovely dry, sweet-bready finish. light to medium body with lively carbonation. very well-balanced and refreshing! garmonbozia (225), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Sep 6, 2009 Botle from Sprinkle. Goulden color with nice carbination. taste was sour, kinda leom and citrus flavor. I like this funky beer taste Nice earthy aftertaste FlssmrBrewAlum (1060), Lisle, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2009 375 ml bottle from Sam’s Clybourne (Chicago, IL). Poured into a narrow tulip. Pours an almost layered dull gold that has some orange notes throughout, hazy and well carbonated, a big slightly offwhite head adorns the brew and dies down to a small layer, a little lacing. Aromas are pretty bretty, featuring horseblanket and barnyard funk above the citrusy sourness beneath. Vinegar, lemon and grapefruit, and some fairly acidic feel and sour peach. Initial is light, with good tart sourness up front, lemon and grapefruit with a touch sweeter side further in, moving into good bretty funk. Acid becomes a nice level, balancing well after a few sips, fruity citrus and peach move into light sweetness, fruits, with brett and funk complimenting well, juicy melange of fruit sticks out though and sticks in the finish and aftertaste with good acidity, sourness, tart, with light bitterness. Mouth coat is tart, but preaches a good sweet fruitiness as well. Really grows on me as faint rubber comes in towards the back end, light vinegar, faint cheesiness. Largely, fruit forward with sturdy sourness and matching brett to boot. Light bodied, but with enough oomph to bring the flavors forward more than other Gueuze I’ve had. Very very nice beer. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 28, 2009 (Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 26 Aug 2009) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Acidic, tart and fruity nose with vinegar, grapefruit, horse blanket and funk. Tart, fruity taste with notes of grapefruit, lemon peel, funk, almonds and a harsh, acidic finish. Medium body, dry. The acidity isn’t quite as wild as in some other traditional versions of the style, which gives this beer an excellent balance and a character of its own. Lovely beer! hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Aug 26, 2009 Bottle shared with savvy1982... Thanks Kyle! Pours a hazy straw colour with a small head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is tart and fruity. Peach, wild yeast, medicine, band-aid, onion, hay and barnyard funk on the nose. The taste is quite balanced and delicate for a gueuze. Complex notes of barnyard funk, horse blanket, peach fuzz, penicillin, straw, citric acid, onion and a nice dry/bitter finish. Soft mouth feel. Damn tasty. Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Aug 23, 2009 Bottle. Shared with hobbersr. Pours hazy amber/orange, fresh, lively carbonation, some solids. No lacing to speak of. Aroma is spicy and funky, with dried pineapple, apples, mild oak and brett. As the beer warms, dirty hay, barnyard, and dusty notes start to come to the fore. Palate is more spice and funk, really surprised by how spicy this gueuze is. Juicy palate, fresh peach and apricot peel, mouthcoating, very well balanced, finish is grapefruit, sweatsocks, and grapeskins/tannin. An excellent gueuze, not as piercingly sour as some, but extraordinarily balanced and complex. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2009 So apparently this is available in our area but for some reason the only store I could find it at is the wonderful 6 and Save in New Kensington. Been hunting this one for a while. Scent is some hefty funk over a hint of spice. Good. Appearance is very nice with one finger of white head that sticks around over a murky, bubbly read liquid. Taste is sour and bready, lemons, sour grapes, very light spice and a nice sour aftertaste. I love this. Palate is somewhere in the middle in body, pretty high in carbonation, sticky and lingering. A really great gueuze.
