drseamus (103), Troy, New York, USA Dec 4, 2007 This had a cloudy amber orangish body with TONS of head. The aroma was very tart and had the classic gueuze smell. The flavor was even more sour than the aroma and made the glands in my neck tingle. Probably one of the best gueuzes in terms of the sourness. It reminded me slightly of La Terroir in sourness level. Light bodied with very good drinkability. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Nov 24, 2007 Big thanks to drmatt for sharing this fine gueuze. Pours hazy orange with a small tight white head. The aroma has brett, funk, citric acid, floralness and lots of earthy qualities. Medium grainy body that’s biting with a small amount of carbonation. The flavor starts salty with sharp citrus, graininess, some dull mineral aspects, brett and minor vinegar. This is very complex and intriguing. I need to sample this again and add more notes because there is a lot going on here. Fantastic beer. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 21, 2007 375mL bottle. Pours hazy golden with a thin white head that fades quickly. Tart, lactic aroma with notes of wood and grapefruit. Flavor is tart but not abrasive; there’s some sweetness in the background, along with some wood and fruit. Long, dry, tart finish. Beautiful gueuze! frylock (998), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 12, 2007 375 ml bottle: Pours a hazy straw color beneath a dense foamy white head. Aroma of grape skins, apple cider vinegar and some musty cellar notes. Tart and fruity flavors of granny smith apples and white grapes. Nice and lively on the palate without being overly carbonated. Finishes dry with some light notes of champagne and oak. Crisp, refreshing and delicious. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 11, 2007 Bottle (no gushing): Estery nose was welcoming. Champagne-like texture with a lively carbonation. Some stickiness in the finish, but drying, too. Very bright and bold aromas from start to finish. Tart and tangy-fruity flavors (cider, grapes, pear and sugar-free Red Bull curiously enough). Zingy sourness toward the finish. Leathery and earthy in the aftertaste. Tasty. MaxxDaddy (261), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Nov 5, 2007 Bottle. Gushed upon opening...oh well. Poured golden with plenty of white head, as one may imagine. Aroma was funky and sour, maybe a little citrus and pepper in there as well. Taste was moderately sour (across the sour beer spectrum anyway), with some of those citrus hints coming in again. The beer skipped and danced along my tongue; I like it lively. Finished dry with a small pucker. Very nice stuff. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 5, 2007 Poured from a bottle. Poured a light, hazy amber color with a nice white head. Sour, somewhat fruity aroma. Flavor opens with a sweet taste that leads into a sour, crisp finish. Dry finish with hints of oak. My first gueuze, but definitely not my last. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Nov 5, 2007 375ml bottle found at Green’s in Altlanta, GA
I popped the cork and it took off like a rocket. I was ready for it, but still nothing I could do. I sucked some of the spillage up off the counter, and it stung the hell out of my chapped lips. OUCH!
When I finally managed to get it in the glass, it produces mostly a huge whire head. It eventually turned in to a yellow-orange beer with a lot of bubbles.
I suppose the aroma is pretty much the same for all gueuze. Cob webs, dusty, oak barrel, ’horse blanket’. Not really sure what else to say about it.
Over the top tart. Very much like orange juice concentrate. Not a bad flavor, be very aggressive.
Medium body. Highly effervesant. Dry, but not as dry as expected.
I wish I would have shared this with somebody. I like it, but its a bit much for me.
