voota (761), Melbourne, Australia Dec 18, 2006 Clear golden with a medium sized creamy white head. Aroma is fresh and very sour, don’t know why really but I was not too impressed, did not have too many of the wonderful bretty smells of some of the other great lambics. It picks up a bit in the flavour, with an insane tartness. Flavours of raw apricot and pear, acid and lime. Finish is long and dry, pretty good. talon1117 (615), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Dec 12, 2006 Updated: Apr 22, 2007Hard to rate a beer style I’ve never tried. Pours with a hazy, golden color with some orange highlights and plenty of effervescence. Head is very full, fizzy, and white with little lasting ability. Nose is sour with some funky barnyard, notes of hay, muskiness, honey, faint pear, and some overripe sour cherry. Flavor is similar, still the overripe sour cherries with a soft tartness, other notes of barnyard, slight oak, lemon zest, slight wheat, and dusty yeast; bitterness is low, but keeping from being overly tart. Palate is medium-light, moderate carbonation, and a mildly refreshing character. Finishes tart with lemon and some dusty yeast. Interesting and complex with a nice soft tartness. Intriguing style and will try others to compare. This style really grows on you with it’s delicacy and intriguing complexities. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 2, 2006 Updated: Jul 21, 2009Rerate from a bottle I bought in Belgium a few years back and shared at a lambic tasting at dickinsonbeer’s place. I didn’t take notes, but I remember epicness. Really damn tasty stuff.
Bottle provided by beastiefan2k and shared with gotmos, notalush and apoptosis. Pale straw colour beer with a fast fading champagne-like carbonation. Beautiful aroma with spicy notes behind the soft malic acidity. Pine and soft baked peach aroma as well as some mild earthiness. Lightly dusty without a lot of horseblanket character. Flavour shows soft tartness along with peachy fruit and a hint of barnyard stink. Lingering spiciness throughout the glass. Good enough to make me wish I had more.
8 4 8 3 17 MPA (482), Nørrebro(formerly Aalborg), Denmark Dec 2, 2006 Bottle. Slight hazy yellow with a fine white head. Aroma is sour and citric along with apples, freshness and at the same time old age and something forgotten. Sour flavour with apples and a fresh, sparkling bitter touch. Super beer! kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Nov 27, 2006 37.5cL bottle. Pours a golden-orange color (becomes cloudy at the second pour); white head with excellent retention and lacing. Very generous, tart aroma: sour citrus, barnyard funk, yeast. Sour, slightly acidic mouthfeel: lemony citrus, very tart, hints of cheese, herbs, and straw; lively carbonation. Lengthy finish showing lemons and lingering yeast. Quite good. lgklotet (420), Singapore, Singapore Nov 23, 2006 Bottle at Delirium Cafe. Brave and intense gueuze, has got everything I look for in the style. Great. luiss (89), Elmsford, New York, USA Nov 23, 2006 Wow how do I describe the tart. Pours a dark yelloe orange. Nice big head that fizzzez away but leaves a nice lacing. The smell is herball, lemony, and citrous peel. The taste is some what woody, sour plum, grapefruit, champagne similarity, but not as dry. The complexity of this beer is new for me reminds me of the saisin stlye whic I didn’t like mipuch at first, and now I do. This is my first of this stlye but will try more of these. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Nov 19, 2006 375 ml bottle at the Map Room. Hazy golden colour with a fully lasting fizzy and frothy off-white head. Chessy, yeasty, tart, cobweb, horseblanket, and barnyard aroma. Complex combination of sour and tart yields to brie, other soft cheeses and yeast flavours. Very dry and refreshing mouthfeel. Great beer, but somehow I expected more.
