Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA May 28, 2006 Pours orange with a thin ring of white bubbles. Smells of horses, sweat, barnyards, some grassy elements. Taste is moderately sour with nice peachy hints. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA May 22, 2006 Bottle Cork popped as soon as I untwisted the cage and gushed half of the bottle also made a major mess - Pours hazy amber with not much head. Aroma is straight barnyard, some bad cheese, sour. Flavor is quite similar, there is some subtle oak there to mellow it but it is sharply sour. Palate is medium bodied, quite astringent, and tough to hold in the mouth. Lots of flavor there. just not much of it I found favorable. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA May 22, 2006 Hazy golden in color with a small white head. Aroma of vomit(albeit nice vomit, barnyard funk, mold, mildew, fruity and musty. Flavor is sour, acidic, sharp at time with mellow a woodiness. Finishes very dry, mouthpuckering as your lips will want more. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA May 17, 2006 Great tasting gueze indeed. Pours a darkish straw with mild sized head. Nose is of huge funk with easy vinegar and a nice barnyardiness. Flavor is similar but with a little more kapow added in. Very mellow, which I liked in it. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 17, 2006 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden-orange with a large frothy white head leaving cloudy lace. The aroma is pretty unreal - so woody and oaky with lots of brett funk, barnyard that I wouldn’t have imagined with my previous gueuze experiences. Definitely on par with the likes of Cantillon and Hanssens and in many ways surpassing in complexity. Juicy citric flavour is mouth puckering at times.
Sampled at Le Zageman in Brussels on May 9, 2006. slcbrewer (44), USA May 2, 2006 Wow. A huge blast of Brett on this one. To me, tasted much stronger than the Drie Font or the Cantillon. Nice head and a fair amount of carbonation. Very little citrus or hops to my palate.
I would be interested to do a side-by-side comparison of Gueze to see if this was indeed that much stronger, or if it was just my taste for the day.
demolayfire (18), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 30, 2006 Highly carbonated for a gueuze, about a third of the bottle ended up on my face and shirt:( hazy orange with a generous white head. wonderful aromas! lemony, sour apple, cave aged cheese, used book store, earthy funk. One of the best and most approachable gueuzes I’ve had to date. The sweet/ sour balance and complex fruitiness make this a great gueuze for someone new to the style. CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2006 Updated: Jan 30, 2007Damn this is good...thanks slob. Pours a amazing honey with a manic white head. Aroma is sour funk, lemons, yeast and cheese. Flavor is similar...incredibly well balanced...actually tastes quite a bit like jolly pumpkin calabaza blanca...but better. Mouthfeel is light and dynamic. I think this is my first official gueze...and I’ll definitely be looking for more.
