Lambik until the age of about 6 months (on oak casks) is considered young (Jong in Dutch) and traditionally sold as such. The difference in flavor and palate between both Jong and Oud is substantial.

Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Girardin Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Girardin Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

[3251-20100802] Tap. Yeasty mild cheese aroma. Hazy, light orange brown body with quick foamy white bubbles. Muted sour yeast flavour has hints of a thick lambic yeast. Medium body. Nice, easy to drink.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2008 On tap at the Hotel Centrum, Beersel 25/4/08. Amber coloured with no head. Tart aroma with a touch of fruit, caramel and wood. Some sweet malt came through in the flavour before the tartness returned in the finish. Different and oddly refreshing.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar. Clear golden coloured with a small white head. Light acidic aroma of carnyard and white wine. Fruity and light acidic flavour of hops and barnyard. Tart finish.

On tap at Mikkeller. Pours deep golden with a small white head. The aroma is fruit, acid and citrus. Light grape fruit notes. Among the acid and citrussy flavours light caramel shows. Ok balance but still young.

On tap @ Mikkeller bar. Hazy dark orange body with almost without no head. Acidic aroma with vinegar, cellar notes and barnyard. Flavor is quite intense sour without being to overwhelming acidic. Fruity, funky, crisp with a hint of rubber. Very nice.

2010-08-02. Hazy orange body, small foamy white head. 3+ Sharply sour initial taste, lemon and grapefruit seeds. It is quite sour, but not quite Cantillon sour, muted pale malt undertones. 7+ Aroma is a bit odd, sweat socks and a bizarrely funky character that I can not quite define, bit of yeasty funk. Bit weird, but not unpleasant. Average palate is zippy/effervescent. Very solid, but I do not love it. FONEFAN Masters Division Celebration, The White Horse, Parsons Green, London

Enjoyed from tap@Centrum Hotel, Beersel. A layer of tiny blond bubbles atop a hazy orangey-amber body. Smell of barnyard and sourish apples. Notes of plums and cherries. Taste is fruity, mostly apples and lemon shell. Light sour and acidic, yet with some noticable residual sugars underneath. Vanilla notes. Softly carboneted. Quite rounded in the mouth. Dry, sourish-fruity, faintly bitter fade.

From the cask at GBBF, August 2006. Day 1, beer #21. Golden colour. Slight haze. Entirely flat. Some sweetness with moderate acidity although I wouldn’t call it particularly sour. Woody and citric at the same time. Less farmyard than expected in the aroma. Not fully developed yet, but getting there.
