Bottle (0.375l): Hazy, red-brown coloured, big, persistent pink head; fruity, a bit burgundy-like and musty nose; solid sweet-sour flavour, light bodied, soft MF; sweet-sour finish with lambic qualities in the aftertaste. Sweeter than the "heartburn"-stuff, but literally refreshing.........

A Mes rate: I should really start by pointing out that this is one of my beers of choice so this may be just a little biased. It really is a fantastic bit of blending. Deep ruby red body and is surely the best looking kriek. Head tends to last well which is unusual for a lambic. Aroma is awesome. Creamy with a touch of cinnamon and slight antiseptic. That comforting smell from when you were young. Obvious cherry and a bit of barnyard funk but in the most pleasing way imaginable. Body is full and almost like syrup with just the right amount of carbonation that only seems to come through at the finish to add a really enjoyable kick. So far (I think) this is the only beer that I have given a 5 for palate. And the head is still there! It is reasonably gentle and refined for a lambic but a wonderful lick of the usual tartness comes through at the finish. Oh but before all that is a perfect cherry lambic with a good dose of strawberry cheesecake mixed in. Do you think I like this one? It really is very very good.

This was a rather shocking bright pink colour and had a most unexpected toffee aroma. Settled down on the palate to reveal clean, citric, fruity and tart elements, but not that sour. I’ve tried a number of fruit lambics and have invariably found I enjoyed the straight lambics and gueuze from the same producer more. This one was no exception. A bit of a disappointment. Bottled.

Bottle. Red colour with a pink head. Aroma is sour, yeast, cork, oak, cherry, vanilla. Flavour is sour, yeast, hint of sweetness, cherry, oak, vanilla. A really nice beer.

Deep ruddy pour with a light pink lace on top. The aroma is very rustic and corky with a touch of soft funky leathery character. Soft phenolics and some musty corky character. Dry and slightly tart, but it doesn’t have a whole lot of complexity. An odd sort of minty character that adds a nice cooling feeling to the back of the palate. Kind of odd - a little bit old and oxidized at this point.

Bottle sampled on 9/3/09: Transparent blood red with a clingy, well-lacing light pink head. Aroma of semi-sweet fresh cherries and some tart oaky character. Starts with good fullness and fine carbonation with a hint of lightly sweet pale malts and fruity cherries revealing vinous oaky notes and puckering acidity toward the finish. Pretty well-balanced for the style with good fruity complexity.

(White label, commercial) Deep red, slightly hazy. Very slight pinkish-white head. Sweet nose, artificial-cherry. Sweet, sweet cherries, like cherry-gums. Bweeuk! medium-bodied. Too sweet by any standard, too artifical. Girardin ought to correct this - this is for children.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2009 Bottled. A dark red coloured lambic with a lovely large lasting off-whte head. The aroma is dry and fruity. Cherry notes but also a little toffee or marzipan. The taste too is dry and lacking acidity. Excellent cherry fruits without ever tasting cheap and poppy. Needs extra sourness to be really good but still tasty and satisfying.Score 3.6

25cl Belgian bottle with a best before of March 11 thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a murky, deep red body with a huge off-white/pink head with good staying power and lace. Aromas of huge red wine, tart cherries, vanilla, hay, oak, pie, light manure and funk). Flavors are sour, funk, pie, brett, cherry and earth. Not super acidic or acetic. Fennel, spicy oak, nice and drinkable. Lively bubbles, dry and funky. Very good, but I want a bit more acidity, Girardin funk is very nice and welcoming though.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2007 375ml bottle, vintage unknown
Consumed at Het Waterhuis, Gent, May 2006

Peppery, meaty scented kriek with some artificial cherry scents, mostly metallic, and bloody and meaty scented as well. Tastes the same, basically, with more pronounced tin flavors, which is not good at all. Palate is a bit oily, moderately thick, and the acidity is subdued, but still retains something close to a “true” sourness.
