COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The original brewed Lambic. Letting this beer age for 1, 2 or 3 years and mixing those for fresh Lambic makes a Gueuze. A Gueuze is also bottle conditioned which gives it carbonation. The Lambic however is complete flat without bubbles. Available only in draught form.

Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Girardin Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Girardin Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

Amber color, flat. Delicate funky aroma, mild indeed. Flat mouthfeel, but with a reasonable body, some malt, light residual sweetness, lightly astringent but also surprisingly smooth for a lambic. Woody final, tannic and bitter. Very good, strange.

2004-04-04, first time for me, it’s stored in a 10 liters plastic bags, as we use in Switzerland for farmer’s apple juice!

Golden color; no carbonation.
Wonderful aroma; cheesy, fruity (grapes, apricots, pink grapefruit...); light vinegar.
Flows smoothly on my tongue, wonderful and fruity, most of all pink grapefruit.
An incredible Unblended: many thanks to Jacob (Lövenlund) for sharing this!

Beautiful light copper color. Excellent aroma of fruits and a light bitter sourness. The taste is a light fruity bitterness with a complex pattern of spices and bitterness. It develops incredible in your mouth. A very wellbalanced beer. Thanks Jacob.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2004 Bag-In-Box sample, by courtesy of Jacob Löwenlund. Deep amber colour, somewhat hazy. Very drinkable and thirst quenching. Notes of oak, overripe green apples, grapefruit, barnyard. Earthy, woody mouthfeel. A big thanks goes to Jacob!

Sampled from a 10 liter cask brought home from Belgium by Jacob Lövenlund - Thanks!!
A copper colored beer with no head of course! Vinous aroma with notes of grapefruit, wood and nutmeg - mild, fresh and deliciuos. The flavor has a nice dry woody sourness with penetrating tones of grapefruit. Fresh and vinous from the wild fermentation. A really flavorful and complex lambic.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2006 Very impressive! The lambic is very smooth and mild at first, then it develops in the mouth and places a quite sour and prinkling feeling on top of the tastebuds. It goes from mild bubbles to a spectacularly feeling of somewhat cellar-like and some apple-sourness. Wild fermentation is fantastic! ...and delicious!

To start, I would like to say that it is quite stupid to rate a lambic, because one can't compare a lambic to another lambic of the same brewery because of the sponteneous fermentation each lambix is different, that's also why they mix several lambic's (good-ones and bad-ones) to get a gueuze with almost the same flavour. But since other raters do rate the lambic's, I will rate them too :) The colour is quite foggy brown, and as usual with lambic's there's no head. Sour aroma with a sweet fruity undertone. In the flavour all the same. This is the beginning of a great beer, but it has to be finished (just waiting for another year). I bought 10 liter of this amazing beer in the brewery in a casc.

Draught. This is one of the most complex beers I've ever tried and one of the most refreshing beers I've tried. This was the only beer I bought twice at the GBBF 2003. Lots of grapefruit notes. White wine, oak and sour apples are there as well. Very well balanced.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2004 [Draft at Stockholm Beer Festival 2003] An orange beer with a bubbly disappearing head. The aroma is a sweet and sour lambic aroma. The flavor is nice: a little moldy "mug", sour, and sweet with notes of fruit and "nellikker". A good lambic

TAP GBBF 2003: Sour nose of apples, deep gold color. Puckering sourness with apple tastes. Chalky finish. More bitter than other lambics. You can taste the hops. Different on tap - more balanced. Pretty good stuff - thanks Lorenzo!

Cask, GBBF2003. Surprisingly bright gold colour, no head and low natural condition. Aromas of decomposing apples and typical lambic off notes. Quite sweet and cidery in the mouth and a finish that is sweet and dry and shitty and lovely.
