Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

Bügelverschlußflasche: Deep amber coloured, medium-sized, slowly collapsing off-white head; malty, a bit toasted nose with a faint touch of vegetables; sweetish flavour with a light bitterness, light bodied; malty, a bit roasted-metallic finish.. Not bad, not great......

(swing top bottle, bought at the brewery) Clear, mahogany colour with a medium-sized foamy beige head. Earthy, slightly sweet aroma of dark malt, moderately roasted with caramel. Bitter flavour, medium to light body with a lively carbonation. Slightly roasted malty taste with dark chocolate and shy herbal notes; flattens extremely in the finish, which is quite bitter, but most of all slim and short with a touch of metal.

33cl fliptop bottle: Unlike Dan, I found this beer in Germany and not Japan. Poured a clear borwnish/ruby red color with a medium beige head. Very light roasted malt aroma, unlike the Paulaner Dunkel. This one comes up short in flavor as well. Very light roasted malt and lacking in all other areas. Slight chocolate. Decent but somewhat watery.

How in the world is it that I’m the first one to rate this German beer all the way from Japan? Found this over the weekend at my favorite store in Morioka, Iwate Perefecture, about 3 hr drive south of here. A Dark Ruby/Mahogany color with a medium beige head. Nice nutty, mild roasty scent, like a whole wheat English muffin left in the toaster a bit too long. A touch of cocoa as well. A slightly sweet nutty flavor with a somewhat thin and spritzy feel.
