This is marketed as a different beer than the regular Big Woody, and the alcohol percentage is different, so I think it warrants a new entry. Light and clear brown color, scant white head. Aroma of vanilla. Taste is smooth vanilla and caramel. Nice.

Sampled from the tap at 2010 FOBAB. Poured a near clear dark brown with an amber hue and a yellowish gray head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had bourbon with sweet grain and a bit of biscuit. Flavor started with sweet grain, biscuit and caramel but a slight bourbon and dry note rounded out the beer nicely.

On tap at Bistro Barrel Aged Fest. Pours dark amber with a thin beige head and a sweet malt aroma. The flavor is sweet malt with a lot of bourbon in it, providing some heat and a little sourness at the finish.

On tap at Hard Liver Barleywine Festival 09, Brouwer’s Cafe. Crystal clear brightly rubied medium amber with very little head and no lace. Creamy medium body. Vinous, boozy nose. Tons of vanilla-y oak on the mid-palate, without much company, other than some notes of caramel. Mild dry finish. This can’t possibly be their best batch of this stuff.

AmEricanbrew (5872) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - FEB 4, 2009
Draft@ Glacier Brewhouse. Clear copper with a tan head. Nice bourbon wood vanilla aromas with sharp caramel. Medium body with soft carbonation. Big notes of bourbon, with subtle white wine barrel flavors on a sharp caramel base brew. Warming boozy alcohol to finish. More bourbon than barleywine flavors here, still a very good barrel aged beer.

FoBAB 2008, Chicago: The pregram says it was aged in "oak wine barrels" for eight months, not the "minimum of one year" mentioned in the commercial description here. This poured a headless clear amber. The aroma was toffee and caramel with a touch of earthy woodiness. Same with the flavor but having the addition of a light fruity tartness. No evidence of the strong ABV in the drinking. Okay.
