6 oz pour at the brewpub, noted as aged 6 months in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels and Smith Madrone wine barrels.. Hazy, deep amber with minimal head and lace. Nose is dark fruits and sugars. Heavy body with light carbonation. Caramel, plum, vanilla, toffee and some raisiny tart sweetness most likely down to the wine barrels. Finish is very caramel-sweet, with some stomach-warming alcohol, but this beer’s 10% ABV is well-hidden. Fantastic - an eisbock never imagined by German brewer.

(Draught) clear medium ruby brown, light clear offwhite edge bubbles. Nose of rum raisin, light whiskey, graham cracker, rich and pretty decadent. Taste of rich raisin, caramel, big whiskey barrel, a bit alcoholic but that’s not a bad thing. Very true to style, quite good. As good as any I’ve had.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep copper, clear, tan head. Rich and malty with a bready, toasty character, dark fruit, nutty notes, a little toffee, smooth and warming, with an up-front Beam barrel character, but not hot. Marriage of huge Eisbock malty flavors and barrel character is perfect. In addition to the Beam barrel version (2011) I had the 2010 Buffalo Trace, which was similar, but had a little spicy, earthy wheat character and hints of dried cherries and leather. These were complex and delicious barrel-aged eisbocks.

Had on draft at the brewery. There was a big difference between the barrels, but they were all amazing. The Jim Beam was coconut, raisin, malty, fruity, burnt sugar, bourbon, and cherry. The Buffalo Trace was dry, malty, wheat, cherry, with a lot if warmth. This beer and it’s different barrel incarnations are insanely good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours a clear amber brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of caramel and toffee with a decent amount of oak. Flavor starts sweet with caramel but mellows to more of a toffee and bread finish with a hint of oak.

From notes. Draft at the source. Hazy dark brown color, small white edge head. Aroma of vanilla and whiskey. Taste is chocolate covered caramel bonbons. Best tasting beer of the night.

This might be an alias of the Buffalo Trace version, if the only difference is the barrel. Admins, you make the call! Draft at the source. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, slight booze. Taste is smooth creme brullee. Decent.

Seems to be different from the regular eisbock, which is 10% abv and not barrel aged. Draft at the source. Hazy dark brown color, small white edge head. Aroma of vanilla and whiskey. Taste is chocolate covered caramel bonbons. Best tasting beer of the night.
