Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest, 5.6% abv: Mostly opaque dark mahogany pour has a well-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and doughy yeasty notes with big bourbon complexity and some nice dark fruity character. Body starts fairly full and earthy dark caramel and chocolatey sweet with a drier, toasty, slightly warming finish. A very nicely balanced and enjoyable BA stout.

Tasted at the 5th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/13/2010. This sweet stout pours a medium to dark brown color from the tap. Medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, roasty malts, wood and bourbon. A medium to full bodied sweet stout. The malts are chocolate, roasty malts and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. The bourbon and wood flavors are subtle in this beer, they drift in and out of the flavor is a mostly subtle way. A nice example of the mild side of a barrel aged beer. Nicely balanced. Very smooth tasting. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 savnac (1481) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - OCT 14, 2010
On tap @ Glacier. Black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, roasted malt and vanilla. Flavor is more bourbon, vanilla with the base beer still coming though with coffee and bitter roasted malt. Amazing mouth feel, creamy and smooth with out any bit or harshness, the nitro really makes this one feel great. Top notch beer, probably the lowest alcohol BA beer I’ve had but still holds up to the bourbon and oak perfectly.

Had this on tap at Glacier Brew House when I was in Anchorage for the Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Fest (Jan. 2010). Colour... black with a garnet-brown base and 1/4 inch head. Nose... lightly roasty, faint hops and delicate aromas of booze and vanilla. Palate... a quick burst of Bourbon followed by vanilla, plenty of sweetness, loads of chocolate, toffee, cafe au lait, sweetened condensed milk and a lingering bit of chocolate on the finish.

Tap: Impressive stout! Dark black with a light brown head. It has a sweet whiskey and mild coconut aroma. Sweet rich flavors of cola and chocolaty malts. It’s tangy and lively, yet with fragile carbonation. Quite good!

FoBAB 2006. Certainly one of the chewier and sweeter stouts of the day. Notes of molasses and roasted oats on the nose lead into brownie and soy sauce. Solid, not overwhelming, but very drinkable. Good bourbon finish.

On Tap at the Goose Island Wriglyville Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers November 4th, 2006.
Dark dark black but clear with no real head. Nose is thin, oaky and alcoholy. The taste is mostly malts but a strong backbone of alcohol and vanilla. Stong bourbon presence.
