Fobab 2005: Brown hue with a small head and oily tears. The aroma has notes of vanilla bean, mocha, oak, lactic sourness, apple amd alcohol vapors. The taste starts fruity and nutty with bourbon barrel overtones of vanilla, wood, and salt. Some chocolate, caramel and coffee as well. The feel is biting and warming yet overall it is still smooth on the finish. A solid beer that got better as it warmed.

draft... a really solid porter that allows the beam to show off and an almost perfect mouthfeel, so creamy, a bit hot on the finish though

On cask @ Glacier. Dark brown with a long lasting, creamy, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak and coffee. Flavor is smooth semi-sweet chocolate, mellow coffee and a light alcohol/oak warming. Medium body with mild carbonation (cask) and a thick, smooth, creamy mouth feel. Another great low abv barrel aged beer from Glacier, lots of barrel character but still letting the base beer shine. Great beer.

Warm chocolate taste, some very light vanilla. Slight hop in the end. Wet, drinkable body, not drying or cloying at all.

dark brown color, weak tan head. sweet, perfumy aroma with whiskey overtones. sweet (vanilla? chocolate? flowers?) beginnings (too sweet for my taste) is offset by a good hit of Jim Beam, which makes this brew worth while.

Enjoyable barrel aged porter that starts out with chocolate, nuts, vanilla, coffee, caramel type sweetness...but always mixed with a strong bourbon alcoholic fragrance. The bourbon/oak lingers in the finish with a fairly strong alcoholic warming down the gullet.

Pour at 3rd Annual FoBAB in Chicago. Clear, deep mahogany pour with a short beige head. Rather sweet aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, and a powerful dose of Mr. Jim Beam. Bourbon dominated the flavor as well, with lesser dark chocolate, some caramel sweetness, vanilla, and oak. Palate was quite slick with sharp alcohol notes... chocolate and other roasty malts came back for the smooth finish. This was good, but the balance was heavily-skewed toward the bourbon... would’ve probably enjoyed this more after only 6 months in the barrel.

At the 2004 Festival of Barrel Aged Beers, Glacier sent a keg of this aged in Jim Beam barrels. Dark beer with sparkling mahogany highlights. Huge creamy beige head and a nose like coffee ice cream. Lots of Beam in the flavor. Almost too much. There is some coffee, chocolate, and oak chips, but the porter-ness of this beer seems overwhelmed by the barrel. Still a very nice beer.
