Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 10/02/2012. Amber with a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, caramel and berry fruit aroma. Bready, slightly yeasty, malt flavours with a lengthy, bitter fish. Good.

Cask (gravity dispense), White Cliffs Beer Festival, February 2005. Cool name, dull beer. Although I’ll admit I might be doing it a disservice as this was a festival devoted to strong winter beers and this was just about the weakest on offer, and a bitter to boot. So it struggled to make too much of an impression alongside much beefier competition. It certainly looked the part - a vibrant ginger colour. But the aroma seemed a touch worty and the mouthfeel was soft as a baby’s bum. And the flavour didn’t pack enough punch to get the pen scribbling. About all I could come up with was rustic, with some treacle/caramel type stuff going on. Maybe another place, another time, I’d see it differently but, on this occasion I was distinctly underwhelmed. It’s usually referred to as FMB by the way, at least for ordering purposes.

Bright bottled at Dover Fest by chris_o. A lovely toffee accented premium bitter with a nicely judged spank of earthy bitterness. Smooth and enjoyable.
