Bottle. Near black with a thin head. Aromas are dark chocolate and blackberries with some earthy, smoky peat. Perfumed soap with mellow grapefruit. Berries with light marzipan. Flavours are cola and herbs with gritty cocoa and lemon and lime. Roast malts with spritzy yeast. Very likeable.

On tap at the CP&K. 5.0%. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Light smooth palate, a little dry. Smooth dark malt with unsweet dark chocolate. A little dark fruits underneath. Very mild coffee bitterness in the smooth dry finish. Alright.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 10/04/2011. Dark brown with a creamy, off-white head. Aroma of coffee and sweetish malts. Easy drinking, with dark fruit, caramel and roasted malts, with a dryish finish accompanied by a lactose tang. Good.

On tap, pours dark brown. Aroma of burnt espresso. Flavour brings out this burnt espresso to the top, with light sour fruits and biscuity malts. Decent.

Cask at CPK. Rich brown pour with a soft, off-white head. Nose holds dark malts, brown sugar, candy, faint roast. Has quite a sweet flavor, mildly roasted malts, a bit of licorice and faint tobacco. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, slightly sticky finish, lots of sugar, a bit more dark, roasted malts than in the flavor, notes of caramel candies and pumpernickle bread. Very modest bitterness from leaves and subtle fruits. I really like this beer.
