Pours murky red/brown with a thick off-white head that disappears extremely fast. Smells of dried fruit (plum, raisin, fig). Flavors are the same as it smells, also sweet but thin. Carbonation is noticeable and alcohol is non existent. Good beer but not as hearty as the name and look might imply. Not a failed experiment by any means but I wont go for it again.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2009 750 ml bottle, bottled on Feb. 28, 2008. The wrapping says the ABV is 8.7%, but the label says 9.5%. This brew was a gusher, a couple seconds after opening the bottle a good amount of foam slowly gushed out. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch cola-like carbonated tan head which would have been larger if I poured the beer into the glass as soon as I opened the cap. Head retention is decent, but not much lacing. It smells like caramel malt, dark fruit, candy sugar and a bit of chocolate and licorice. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with the dark fruit flavors being the strongest. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s well carbonated (a bit too much carbonation for my liking) and also a bit coating. Drinkability is good, it’s smooth and enjoyable. Overall a pretty decent brew. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 25, 2009 16.9 bottle. Pours deep brown almost black. Black in the glass. Good head retention and visible yeast floating about. Very little aroma in general, and its mostly a light vanilla sweetness and a tiny, tiny bit of hop aroma. Dry malty flavor with a hint of coffee and the "dryness" lingers on tongue. Smooth smooth body/mouthfeel with low carbonation. Pinball (3012), Allerød, Denmark

caramel, cinnamon, faint hops in the aroma, also some dark fruits.
flavor is sweet dark fruits, nuts, brown sugar, faint sourness, raisins, a sweet, malty deal, spiced up, but some fruity flavors do generate a little balance. Ober (1242), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2009 750mL bottle, dated 9/23/06. Poured clear medium garnet with a towering cap of dense beige head. The aroma picked up a decadent blend of sweet and smoky aged caramel, toffee, and brown sugar accented by mild figs and rum-like sugars.. a dry, airy yeast and dark fruity character surrounded.. seemed like a cross between an Abt and a scotch ale.. yum! The flavor didn’t quite follow suit, but it was still good.. aged caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of honey at the core.. dry on the edges with dark fruits, white pepper, and a hint of banana.. finished with some fruit skin tartness, alcohol warmth, and tasty sugars. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. slightly empty feel on the grainy middle, with only decent transition to the somewhat tart edges.. all in all a very enjoyable brew! Spicy, fruity, vegetal aroma. Lots of old celery. Rich malt that is a first quite layered and lovely but quickly vanishes away into caronated vegetable juice. Cookie and bread in the middle palate, somewhat like a good bock. But far too heavily carbonated; watery, terrible body. Stink-ass and vegetal. This doesn’t seem like the same beer I’ve read about. A huge disappointment, especially next to the aged stilton we paired it with.

Buttery, quite a butter y bomb actually, vanilla custard. Plumy notes with a doughy yeast y body, bread y notes. A moderate warming with some faint cinnamon esk spices. Did not age well i suspect.
