2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, USA - MAR 28, 2011
On tap at the Map Room into a tulip...Pours a medium iced tea brown with red highlihgts. A light tan head with ok retention but great lacing. A very creamy head...The aroma ia light faint hint of dark fruits and inverted sugar, some spices as well, with a hoppy finish...The taste is super weird for the expectation of getting a dubbel, this is certaily not a traditional interpretation. It has a little dark fruits and figs, but its spciy and to me lightly sour.
This is a new take on a dubbel which if you want to explore give it a try. If you want a traditionalesque trappist dubbel stay far away from this.

Tap. Pours hazy brown with thin, creamy off-white head; short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma sour dark fruit, caramel and cookie malt, floral hops, and some earthy notes. Flavor is malt forward transitioning to lightly sour fruit esters on the backend; dry finish. Medium body, low carbonation, and medium warmth.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 LoFi (989) - SWEDEN - MAY 14, 2012
Bottled 30 Jul 2011.
Reddish brown with a large beige head.
Aroma: fruity, brown sugar, yeasty, peppery, lemon peel.
Taste: apples and dark fruit, a hint of red wine, candy, oranges and maybe some other citrus fruit, light spiciness.
Above average, but for me it’s missing that something special.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 IlBevitorediLA (219) - ITALY - MAY 11, 2012
Amo questo birrificio. Aroma fruttato, dolce e leggermente luppolato. Al palato attacco dolce, con un gusto di caramello, frutta secca (nocciole) e infine un qualcosa di olio d’oliva robusto. Il tutto condito da un elegante e prolungata luppolatura. Un birra equilibrata e assolutamente fantastica.

A solid blegian with a good raisin and plum presences.
The caramel malts are rich and the finish is even slightly chocolate and mild hop. I liked it a lot.

Aroma of roasted malt and spices. The taste is malty with a fresh bitterness, and with hints of yeast, raisins and spices. The alcohol is well hidden. Very carbonated, reminiscent of soda. Nice!

(750ml bottle) Purchased at The Strath for $13. Pours a delightfully carbonated deep red body beneath a quick dissipating white foamy head. Nose is marshmallow hidden amongst white wine. Strong malt base and brown sugar with a sour melon front. Very interesting - thanks to Lon for the suggestion.

750ml from IPB.
Appearance : Deep amber medium foamy white head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Spices, earthy and mineral notes. Yeast with raisins.Light dust.
Taste : Yeast brown sugar, more yeast, light raisins. Finish is earthy and mineral with more yeast. Finish is rather dry and mineral. Light red fruits.
Palate : Average belgian style carbonation. Full and fluffy. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Overall : Nice pour, nice head with lots of lacing. Great yeast with raisins. A bit too mineral for my taste especially on the finish. Fairly drinkable even at 8%. Nice stuff. Interesting example of a darker belgian ale that drinks like a light blond. Nothing wrong with this, just not exactly my thing.
