3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tripel from Aalst, the city of the late author Louis Paul Boon, one of the greatest authors in the Dutch language, creator of De Kapellekensbaan - the main character of which this tripel is named after. Yellowish white, thick, creamy, very stable head, warm golden blonde colour, clear but becoming cloudy as the 75 cl bottle is emptied in the glass. Pleasant fruity aroma of apple, mandarin, pineapple; malt sweetness, herbal hops, honey, caramel, white rhum, walnuts and some faint solvents, but nothing disturbing. Rounded, creamy palate, apple and orange fruitiness, mellow with honeyish background, finish soft spicy with mild Hallertau hoppiness. Very well balanced. I’m really beginning to like this brewery, founded by one of Belgium’s most notorious beer authors.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy brown golden color. Typical Glazen Toren aroma: Ementhaler cheese, yeast, hint of orange juice. Taste starts with a slightly sour fruitiness (-dried- oranges), grass/hay, does not turn too bitter which suits this beer well. Ideal for ending warm summer nights. Aftertaste is ripened cheese. Not bad (not at all), however, the their Saison d’Erpe beer is more robust in terms of aroma and palate, and tastes better in my opinion.
