JoeinUccle (667), Brussels, Belgium Apr 28, 2008 All the draft ratings might explain why this beer is so underrated, IMO. This is one where bottle-conditioning would make a difference. 75 cL bottle pours a golden amber color, with huge, dense, rocky white head. Like other Glazen Toren beers it looks magnificent. The nose is slightly sweetish, very grainy, and dry-hoppy. Flavor has an initial light sweetness, cidery with a bready backdrop like malty nectar, vanishing into a moderate bitterness then suddenly poofing into that cobweb-like dryness that is characteristic of Glazen Toren’s (bottled?) beers. Parches the tongue and has you ready for more.
CafeeOndineke (22), Aalst, Belgium Sep 1, 2008 75cl bottle, fuzzy strawyellow, abundant nice head. citruslike bitter in the nose, dry and soft in the mouth, long aftertaste that slowly disappears bitterly. Good saison! steview (748), Oceanside, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 fresh aroma--sugary, lemon, melon, honey; gold body with a lasting white head; nice, warm aftertaste that is sweet and slightly tart with some spice, nutmeg perhaps weakly--good, proper compact of flavors; carbonated well, fairly dry; a good saison in my book, but no better than fantome. DrBayern (952), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Aug 15, 2008 Date: 08/15/08, 750 ml. bottle
Aroma - Fruity, like peach and apricaot, some citrus, honey, very faint spice. A really nice aroma.
Appearance - Hazy gold pour producing a substantial white head that recedes to a fine, thin layer, and a delicate, spotty lace
Flavor - A soft sourness offers contrast to the fruity sweetness, and some acidic tartness at the finish provides and excellent drying effect, which is amplified by some very gnetly bitterness.
Palate - Light body, rather bold carbonation, enhancing the dryness. Very clean palate, dry without harshness.
Overall - I really enjoyed this saison. Clean, refreshing, wonderful flavors and aromas, and the perfect accompaniment to the dinner of grilled mahi-mahi that we had tonight.
