COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
his is golden brown moderately hopped (bitter) ale with an ABV of 4.0%. It uses a combination of Pale, Lager, Wheat and Crystal malts along with a variety of European and North American hops to give it a distinctive flavour. The name “Gold Ale” reflects both its colour and the £4,000 (present value many millions of £) of gold that went missing near Glenfinnan during the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 – 1746.

Bottle at Appellation Wines. Pours a blonde colour with a decent white head. Aroma of yeast, white pepper, a little smoke and lemon. Nutty flavour and also quite musty with wet cardboard, lemon, barley, yeast and hay. Moderate carbonation and CO2 prickle. Lingering lemon and caramel flavours.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2011 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Oaty malt aroma. Cloudy amber reddish brown colour, not much head. Sour vegetable malt flavour. Sour aftertaste. Bottle was 5 months past sell by date so I suspect it was off.

AROMA: citrus (grapefruit?), basement aromas APPEARANCE: golden, clear unless yeast is poured in, frothy TASTE: light sweetness, medium bitterness PALATE: medium body, thin feel, average carbonation, astringent OVERALL: a very drinkable and refreshing ale with depth, not a spectacular depth, but definitely worthwhile giving this one a try. Has a nice balance in the aroma and taste.

[500ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] Pours an opaque golden colour from the bottle conditioning - needed a while to settle, but still hazy. Aromas are mostly musty, earthy bitterness with some fruit lifting it. On the palate, dry and bitter, hops come through before the dry finish takes over. Decent golden ale let down slightly by the lack of a clean finish. Drinkable though [23052011]

50cl bottle. Pours a golden-orange colour with loads of bubbles and a good head. It’s slightly cloudy after the yeast goes in. The nose has orange and grapefruit with a background malt profile. The taste has grapefruit and peppery parsnip then grapefruit pith. The palate is medium bodied. medium in texture with a nice clean finish. Overall, this is a very tastey but also very sessionable ale..

500ml Bottle - Golden coloured with lively carbonation and a foamy head. Lightly soapy aroma with some hops, malt and a musty element. Lightlf fruity taste with mild hops and bitterness. Drinkable but has the potential to be more impressive than this.

Cask at troon beer fest 07. Aroma has hints at honey and grassy hop, but a slight mildue character arrises. Taste is similar moldy as it goes on, like the back part of the cellar that you always forget to clean.
