EHGsean (28), Canada May 5, 2009 Updated: Jun 17, 2009Copper-brown in color, off-white head that dissipates. Recent changes in this beer have moved it more in style with English Brown Ales as opposed to Irish Ales or Stouts. The Roasted Barley has been removed from the brewing process, and two-row and dark crystal remain the prominent malts. Beerdedone (1813), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 22, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a big fizzy three finger beigh head. aroma was sweet with light malts, toffee and some mustiness. Flavor was bland and watery with light roast, ripe fruit and has a hint of toffee and nuts. dont bother AWS9 (182), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Apr 10, 2009 On tap. Deep honey brown with a solid creme coloured head. Grassy hops, honey malt, hints of spices. Smooth, slightly tangy, finish, with a touch of grassy hops. Really enjoyed it. jimmay (116), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Apr 6, 2009 341 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours dark copper in colour, with caramel coloured head, which dissipates quickly. Strong sweet, nutty aroma. Flavour is also sweet, roasted malt. Hoppy finish. Nice beer! mgermani (810), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 3, 2009 Pours a dark brown-black with a small beige head with poor retention. Aroma is very sweet and dark. Tastes surprisingly well-hopped - I was expecting something full of molasses & underattenuated. Still very sweet, but well-balanced against the hop and nutty flavours. Lightly carbonated thin body. Quite quaffable - thanks to Robin for the trade! garthicus (1040), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2009 Cask at Volo. Appearance: Port coloured. No head. Aroma: Dusty/musty with some malt notes. Flavour: Bitter and dry. Meh. mullet2007 (193), St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada Dec 5, 2008 Pours a deep burgundy with a very small off white to tan head. Nose is moslty roasted malt and some chalky dark bitterness. Flavour is very much the same thing. A little bit of coffee and dark bakers chocolate. It is kind of chalky in the finish, and there is a bit of toffee flavour in there somewhere if you pay attention. It is pretty creamy, but the carbonation is a tiny bit sharp for the creaminess to really feel right. Not bad though. Tastes a bit dark for how red it looks, but otherwise an enjoyable beer. Nekronos (2094), Xalapa, Mexico Nov 29, 2008 Another from this brewery. It was nice, but nothing special either, I do not know why it is labeled as a Dark Ale it was not so dark.
