A clear, copper beer with a dark, off-white head, finger-thick and diminishing, and leaving lacings. Bready, caramel nose with a slight vegetal touch and a whiff of something herbal. Caramel and roasted notes in the mouth, some bitterness and fruits. Blue grapes and apples. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Bitter finish with some caramel. A refreshing and tasteful beer. 091010 kopestes (164), Braine l’Alleud, Belgium

You can’t find this beer in Belgium, so I was really curious. As other guys said it is a nice Alt beer and worth trying it. Goodgrief (1161), Middletown, Delaware, USA

Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing growler. Pour was amber, clear with little head and lacing. Nice balance of sweet malt and hops. Taste really came out as it warmed. Smooth for a lager. tipsytoad (84), Jersey
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2007 Tap at the pub in Krefeld. The best of the range, a copper coloured lagerbier (not sure where the altbier bit comes in). This is a good lagerbier, fresh, clean and with a good malty finish. I liked this, but it is not an altbier, simply a darker than average lagerbier. The fact that it is called Lager suggests that it is bottom fermented which means it cannot be an alt given that alts are top fermented. jbrus (4916), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2006 Updated: Dec 25, 2008Bottled. Aroma has hints of raisin, caramel and hops but overall not too strong. Amber color, beige fine head, good lace. Light maltsweet start that diminishes quickly, bitter and increasing towards the finish. Well hopped, nice caramel malts, dry finish. Why call it a Lager while it’s topfermented, looks like an alt, tastes like an alt and your located in Alt territory??? Re-rate: hey! Theyve listened to me. The Lager is removed from the label now. :-) sloth (1688), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2006 Swing top bottle and appropriate glassware provided by my tasting bud eaglefan538, thanks Brian! Large, rocky, offwhite head delivers excellent retention with blotchy, chunky lace that hangs. Clear copper/amber hued beer. a scenic brew indeed. Dry malty nose, light grassy hop notes, touch bready. Body is light, crisp and a bit grainy. Dry malt flavors, some caramel?, a hint of berries, honey and grain. Finish is almost dry with a clean maltiness. Thanks Bud!! EithCubes (2177), Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 20, 2006 Swing-top. Cupreous pour with a beige head. Smells slightly of caramel and light fruitiness. Tastes very crisp, bitterness joined by an equally-strong tanginess. Like in the Gleumes Hell, a touch of acidity with a hint of metal. Light hoppy finish. Medium-dry. Thanks to MoritzF!

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 31, 2006 A classic German "altbier," this one is best enjoyed on-site in Krefeld, Germany. Pours a copper clear color with a large and pillowy head that actually laces quite nicely. The very first beer I liked (perhaps one reason I think so highly of it), and one which has a smooth malt (bready and resinous) taste with a crisp and clean, hoppy (somewhat spicey or peppery) finish. German quality and a smooth drinking lager. Great stuff that can be coupled with great food from Gleumes.
