2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RSRIZZO (1683) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - SEP 25, 2007
Had this beer on 3/3/2002. Aroma has a faint sweet malt scent. Color is a rich amber with light carbonation and head. Taste is roasted with a crisp light bitterness. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a crisp clean feel. Finish is a bit bland with a mild roasted malt flavor that is backed by a light but crisp bitterness. It seems a bit light for a bock but it is an easy drinking brew.
1.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 hellomynameis (868) - Mayer, Minnesota, USA - DEC 28, 2006
Dark pour, no head, think looking brown colour. There is no aroma to speak of. I was told that there was a large hop addition to this beer, I honestly didn’t smell it, nor did I get it in the flavour. The flavour did have a bit of a burnt taste at the end, and had some kind of porter like notes, albeit faint.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - SEP 7, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2004 Dark brown color, small tan head that faded quite quickly.Malty sweet aroma with a caramel note to it.The flavor is malty sweet and low alcohol for sure with a nice caramel taste slight hop presence. The after taste is caramel and mild coffee and fairly sweet. It isn't as bad as i thought it might be but the price was definately right at $3.99/6pk and it is fairly drinkable.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 6, 2002
Light brown/amber color with a thin light tan head. Smell of dry oak. Quite dry in mouthfeel. Dry malt flavors, with a a touch of smoked peat in the background. Lacks many of the qualities of a dopplebock (malt sweetness, thinkness, slight warming alcohol). More of a dark ale. Not clean enough for a lager.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 bwilson (14) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 9, 2002
Looks good. Tastes very attenuated, thin and has hints of burnt malt. A bit of a let down.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerlovinman99 (124) - USA - JUL 9, 2002
Too thin to be a great doppelbock, but a great taste anyway!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 twierz99 (15) - Minnesota, USA - JAN 26, 2002
A light doppel...but it has a great appearance, good flavor, nice palate. A good doppel. If it was a little thicker, it would be great. I’ll drink it again.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Blatz King (150) - Whitewater, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 4, 2001
Great initial taste but after that i might as well drink water.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Got Stout? (173) - Wisconsin, USA - JUL 26, 2001
UPDATED: MAR 29, 2005 This is a very light doppel. I enjoyed the slightly burnt nose, but the rest of the trip is downhill. The palate is almost non-existant, except for the little lingering of stiff wood-like malt (which is actually pretty good). The thin body and (watery) finish make this my least favorite doppel, but not my least favorite beer. Cheap enough to enjoy after work on the week days. A great session beer, but there’s a party in my mouth, and everybody left.
