Commercial Description:
SMV +1 (Semi Dry). Go-Shu is a traditional style of sake suitable for heating and drinking at 35-40°C. It is dry and crisp with light fruity notes and a balanced smooth taste. It has 15% alcohol content, is non-allergenic and enhances food flavour by cleansing the palate and sensitising taste. Go-Shu may also be consumed cold. It belongs to the Junmai type of sake, produced from Australian Japonica rice polished to 70% of its original size. Traditional brewing methods and high quality standards gives this sake a smooth balanced flavour, with fruity notes, a hint of bitterness and a dry finish.

Lots of mango and tropical fruit on the nose. The body is quit smooth and the mouthful is of more fruit. Lacks a little je na sei quoi to make it special.

Australian Sake hey, hmmm!
From the bottle into a port glass at room temperature. Pours to a translucent, palest, palest straw yellow with good body evident in its viscous grip on the meniscus. Pungent, spicy aroma of rubber, banana-peel, medicinal alcohol, browned rice and band-aid like phenols. It is alarming, but none-less pleasing though it gives the olfactories a work-out. Pleasing, piney, driftwood flavour dominates the palate. Alcohol heaves into play early, warming the entire mouth and leaking down into the gullet. There is browned rice here as well, raw, white, field-mushrooms, lemon-grass and cracked pepper. The body is firm, smooth and just a little oily. Finish is long with more rice evident with the alcohol overpowering all else. I liked this, would go down a treat in the dead of winter, though it would be hard to find food to compliment it. Perhaps some spicy, wasabi soup. A nice, locally made drop. (72cL, Western Cellars, Altone)
