Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 9th Feb 2011. Very dark brown with a small bubbly tan head. Rich, roasted coffee and chocolate nose. Burnt notes at the back of the throat give it a persistent aftertaste. Smooth but the burnt toast flavours would put me off having another.

14th July 2011 Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer, no real head. Smooth low carbonation palate. A little roasty malt with bitter licorice. A smooth but pretty grapefruit bitter finish. Ok but a few too many rough edges.

7 Rich roasty aroma, almost some choco there.
4 V. dark brown, almost black. Healthy tan head
7 Lovely full roasty taste, a bit burnt, but not ashy.
4 Full palate, carbonation low. Finish very burnt, but agagin still short.
13 Great for 4.5%, a full roasty taste.

(Cask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 5 Aug 2010) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee, chocolate and cocoa. Roasted, malty taste with notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Creamy and dry with a generous espresso bitterness in the finish. Medium body, dry and fairly bitter. Very nice stout.

Hand pulled cask at the Black Lion, Lynsted. Black with a creamy tan head. Although far from imperial, this is a class stout, with chocolate roasty notes, hoppy finish and a little sourness. complex and moreish.

Cask - Planet Thanet Festival 2010, Margate. Poured black with very dark brown edging and a fine beiege head. Smokey & roasty aromas with a bit of chocolate and dark fruit. More roasted malt present on the tongue with a dry and lingering smokey, ashiness in the finish. Good all-round bitterness, medium in body with low carbonation and a soft palate texture.
