Post-cycle pint with Octo and Keith, The Blue Pig, Wolvey, 24/05/12. Handsome, cream-capped copper. Thick-conditioned with soft layered malts; milk chocolate-coated digestives, puff of cigar. Lingers creamily with a flick of ash. Nose lets it down a little; hot plastic, cereal. Otherwise lovely.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma of sweeties. Really, it’s almost sickly, pink jelly beans. Not unpleasant.
Taste malty and rich, curling around the tongue. Aroma and taste a bit out of kilter like too different beers.
Interesting though - would get it again. Occasionally.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint bottle BBE Jan 2014, from a case bought by my family for Fatha’s day: bless them. They are consumed with my desire for the all Britains counties award, and this seemed the best way to get the Isle of Wight living in Gateshead. Anyway, poured into a big tulip, dark amber with a thin offwhite head that disappeared altogether. No lacing. Not a good sign. Vinegar toffee aroma, (did your mam make vinegar toffee?) Big toffee malts, muscavado sugar, and red fruit. . Creeping towards that strong ale, Christmas cakey flavour, but with bitter hops on the finish. At 4.8% this is a bit confusing. Sticky palate. Nearly really good, if thats not damning with faint praise, (which it is.)

(Cask at Kittys, 20120831) The beer poured brown and clear. Its head was bubbly, small and white. Aroma had malts, toffee and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A decent but bit harsh beer.
