COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting beer that was first brewed in 1824 – it’s the beer specialty of Leipzig. Gose is an own, very old style of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with a special old Gose yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by the additional lactate fermentation.
World Beer Awards London: World’s Best Gose 2013, Europe’s Best Gose 2014, World Beer Idol 2016: Gose Gold, World Beer Cup 2016: Bronze Medal
Brewed by Hartmannsdorf until 2014 (until 2007 @3.9%), brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015

Ritterguts Gose is one of the better-known longstanding beers in a little-known style. Thanks to the resurgence of Gose, more people should be finding out about this brew. It’s a strange one, as you’d expect from the style. Cloudy yellow pour. Yeasty, salty, lemony, and spicy. Not as spritzy and intensely sour as some of the more modern variants. Still, it’s pleasingly traditional and well-suited for a hot day.

Bottle. Orange color with thin head. Aroma is sourish, some spicy notes. Taste is heavy sour with salty notes. Easy, refreshing drink. But very special and unusual. Not for me, you should get use for that taste, but definitely it was interesting experience.

Citrus aroma with tones of bread. Pours light golden with a white head. Slightly sour taste, but not overwhelming. Koriander finish, some salt. Feels thin and quite lively. Long after taste. Very different from what I expected, I like this.

Bottle thanks to LukasMH at Mikkeller bar Aarhus. Pours an almost clear golden with a big, white head. Looks nice. Aroma has lemony tart notes, light wheaty grain, lactic funk and definitely some floral or herby notes. Taste is pretty tart and citric. Lots of coriander spice, lemony tartness, lactic tartness and a slightly grainy finish, but not at all as bad as it often gets. Pretty salty as well. Medium high carbonation and a light, but not watery body. Much better than expected!
