Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

Bottle. Hazy yellow color, medium lacing white foam. Aromas are lactic sourness with a hint of apple. Taste is nice sour, with a well balanced bitterness. Palate is fizzy, with a nice texture. Surprises with a nice malt aftertaste and a bit saltiness. Makes a round brew, nice one!

Bouteille 50cl @ RBBSG III, courtesy of Jef.

500 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG III. Thanks to JefVerstraete! Clear golden, off-white head. Nose is this very German lactic sourness, makes me think of a Berliner Weisse, sour wheat, touch plastic, touch lemon / very sour green apple. Taste is lactic sour wheat, thinking Berliner Weiss once again, citrus, quite sour for the syle, green apple, touch sweeter grain. Lactic wheat body. feels very traditional, nice beer even if not entirely my personal preference.

Bottle, trade with McTapps. Body pours in cloudy, pale to hazy yellow with low to medium creamy white head. Aroma has light sourness right away with sweet malty finish, on the background citrus and peach. Taste has light milky sourness, balanced with honey sweetness. Spruce, pine after taste. Body is medium, refreshing, little bit dry with high carbonation.

Bottle from Hopfen & Malz, Berlin. Pour into a stein, dissipating head, aroma is light sourness. Taste is sour, light saltiness, acidic finish which fades, pleasant carbonation. A speciality worth trying

Draft at Strangeloves. Hazy orange amber pour with a decent foamy white head. Juicy medium-light toasted flavors with a sour spike and a definite salty character. Bright lady apples. Peach fuzz. Sour caramel apples. Orange marmalade. Cloves. Apricot pits. Sweet, sour and salty in largely the same measure. Makes for a worthy brew.
