Cask Handpump at the Albion, Warrington 30/12/2009 Roast aroma. Dark red coloured a little rich on the palate and fruity with a hint of bitterness in a smooth and dry burnt roast finish.

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2009. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with ruby highlights and a thin white head. Dusty black malt in the short aroma. Thick creamy mouthfeel which reminded me of Broughtons Oatmeal Stout and poor lacing. Dark malt gives black toast note at the start, then sweet notes of treacle toffee, molasses, coffee beans and dry blackcurrant fruit come through. Dusty spicy hop resins compliment the malt well in the short aftertaste. Finish is dry with liquorice and ripe blackcurrants noted. An interesting porter but hard to find in Scotland. Well recommended.

Cask Conditioned at the Market Porter, Borough, London. Rustic brown body with a fluffy, semi-sudsy head. Toffee caramel flavour, with distant burnt notes. Interesting arrangement of flavours on the palate. Best described as an old world styled porter.
