illidurit (1300) - Santa Cruz, USA - JAN 3, 2012
Bottle shared at the December iteration of the Santa Cruz tasting series. Medium brown color, fizzy tan head. Chocolatey, light roast, somewhat metallic and dusty. Standard porter flavor, thin bodied and light. The metal note becomes distracting as time wears on. Typical brewpub fare.

Smell bitter chocolate, aluminum, taste Munich malt, white pepper, grape...really mild hopping. It tasted more like an Oktoberfest than a Porter. Tasty, nice lacing and head once it warmed up to 55F

Bomber from the brewery (they don’t distribute). Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aromas of chocolate and chocolate. Med body. Flavor is chocolate over some pretty smooth dark malt. There is a very faint burnt malt aspect. It is more dry than sweet. The bitter in the finish might be coffee, or not. There’s some sort of robust flavor here. Not particularly a porter fan, but this ale is very good. It gets more chocolate as time moves on. There’s a bit of physical grittiness to it. If they ever start putting this into their red wine barrels the world will shift on its axis.

AKA Hank’s Honey Porter. Draft @ Gold Hill Brewery. Pours a clear, dark-amber color; creamy, fine-bubbled off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. Rounded honey notes and some biscuity malts in the aroma. Medium body; medium CO2; no alcohol. Sweet, honeyed core with a nice rounded floral character; some light cola and biscuity malts comprise the majority of the porter character; highly drinkable; nicely integrated honey character, well expressed.
