2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 boboski (1095) - Alabama, USA - FEB 18, 2007
UPDATED: APR 3, 2007 Clear pour yields a deep yellow with white highlights, and a fading white head. Spicy cornmeal leads the procession of an aroma that is surprisingly potent. Also noted are light hops and a lively cereal graininess. Flavor is woeful, though energetic and interesting. More corn and grains lead to a spicy finish. This would probably stand up to mildly spicy local fare, but I can’t see it being complimentary. At times offensive and face smacking, but there is a very intriguing spice combination that brings me back for repeated sips. I finished it, so it wasn’t too awful.

Bottle. Poured a pale hazy yellow color with a thin white head. The aroma was of Alpha Bits cereal an a light fruitiness. The flavor was malty with notes of cerel, grain and fruit.

Beer is definitely Japanese micro-brewed. Hoppiness is a little more than regular Taiwan Beer. Rice adds sweetness and tones out bitterness. Smoothness is fair, and thickness is minimal.

Can Blond color. Common Pale Lager aroma, with some vanilla and a peculiar scent of citrus fruits. Soft flavor, with very light malt taste; too watery at the end.

Bottle from 99 Ranch Market. Pours a medium golden color with moderate head. Slightly sweet grainy aroma with some traces of maltiness. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Lightly bitter grainy flavor with a little bit of malt. Very crisp balanced flavor. Much better than expected. Very respectable for the style. Bitter finish.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 DuffMan (4428) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 9, 2006
I found this on a recent trip to Taipei. It has a deeper gold colour than regular Taiwan beer, and a more distinctive and strong green hop aroma. The palate is somewhat bland, however the hop character maintains a solid enough presence to provide a rounded bitter finish. Overall this is a rather ordinary pale lager, but compared to its Asian peers, it is a step above. Shared with Tyler*Durden.
