3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
No#32. (2003). Theres a full nutty aroma off this, sweet. Taste is similar with an overwhelming bitter sweetness that makes this not the best barley wine iv had this weekend.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Botttle. Pours a bit weak, with highlights of ruby and brown. Aroma is bread, mainly a good honey wheat. Heavy flavor- mix of raisin, brown sugar, and a slight vanilla finish. Palate is a bit rubbery. Not bad.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2005 Draught (14oz. shaker glass, unfortunately). Strong, darkly fruity aroma, plum, berry and red grape overriding the lighter bubble gum nuances, along with plenty of malty, brown sugary sweetness and piney, citric hoppiness, along with a touch of alcohol as it warms. Fairly complex and pleasant. Deep, dark garnet color, clear (filtered) with a slight, ivory ring of foam. Flavor profile is alcoholic to start, unusually, moving towards the strongly bitter, citric hops and finally seeing the richly sweet, fruity flavors at the end, making it a sort of "Barleywine in reverse"... The long, lingering finish is a combination of all elements, ultimately, the full, sugary sweetness, the abundant fruitiness, the bitter, piney and resinous hops and the gentle, warming touch of alcohol, which is not overpowering in the least. Certainly a powerfully full-flavored rendition, but not over the top. Smooth with low effervescence on the palate, full-bodied for certain. Seemingly a proper American Barleywine overall.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
No head, clear dark brown. Aroma is sweet malts, possibly candi sugar. Very sweet, VERY alcoholic. Tastes almost unfermented, but a complete fermentation would have jacked up the alc even more. Big alcohol burn. I think English barleywine just isn’t my style.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light aroma, balanced with malt and hop yet subtle. Perfumey, fruity aromas, mostly resembling ripe strawberries and raspberries, with hints of chocolate, caramel (malt), grapefruit and pine (hop.) Oily and slick body with a creamy feel. Ripe , gummy fruits parade the palate upon tasting, with hints of caramel and hops, which are very resinous and citrusy. I enjoyed this barley wine, like I do almost every single one.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Falling Rock: Pours a clear dark brown with a thin, short-lived head. Aroma is rich, sweet and hoppy, somewhat reminiscent of Oggi’s Hop Whompus. Body starts rich, caramely and toffee sweet with some molasses and a fresh grapefruity hoppy presence toward the crisp, sticky bittersweet finish. Could be a little more balanced and drinkable, but still an enjoyable big beer.

Bottled. Pours murky deep brown, melted chocolate with caramel hints and no head. Huge floral hop and caramel malt mixed aroma, wonderfully blended with a sweetness like maple syrup. Syrupy hop and caramel malt with a faint milk chocolatiness and a dry hop and brown sugar finish. Full bodied, syrupy and dry.
