COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ancient brewers sought potency in their beers, and Golden City’s Centurion Barleywine Ale satisfies this tradition. Twice the malt and hops and a cellaring period of many months yields an ale unlike any other.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 16/20
Indra (2361) - Overland Park, USA - OCT 5, 2005
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2005 Draught (14oz. shaker glass, unfortunately). Strong, darkly fruity aroma, plum, berry and red grape overriding the lighter bubble gum nuances, along with plenty of malty, brown sugary sweetness and piney, citric hoppiness, along with a touch of alcohol as it warms. Fairly complex and pleasant. Deep, dark garnet color, clear (filtered) with a slight, ivory ring of foam. Flavor profile is alcoholic to start, unusually, moving towards the strongly bitter, citric hops and finally seeing the richly sweet, fruity flavors at the end, making it a sort of "Barleywine in reverse"... The long, lingering finish is a combination of all elements, ultimately, the full, sugary sweetness, the abundant fruitiness, the bitter, piney and resinous hops and the gentle, warming touch of alcohol, which is not overpowering in the least. Certainly a powerfully full-flavored rendition, but not over the top. Smooth with low effervescence on the palate, full-bodied for certain. Seemingly a proper American Barleywine overall.

arminjewell (3113) - Parker, Colorado, USA - APR 3, 2012
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark ruby red almost brown with thin ring of off white head, aroma brings notes of big toffee, caramel, some dark fruits with hints of raisin, touch of heat in there as well with a hint of earth and nutty notes as well. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, and a nice vanilla note, some even slight marshmallow notes with fruity dark fruits, hint of cocoa powder and chocolate notes as well, hints of some slight earth finishing fairly sweet, but little to no heat on the taste. Pretty nice! Would like to try one with a year or two of age.
