3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 onceblind (2532) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 15, 2012
Clear light copper with a thin white head. Aroma of delightful nutty caramel and some sweet toffee. Taste has some sweet toffee and nuttiness along with a gentle caramel tone with a light leafy hoppy tone. Delightful and balanced.

Tap @ Golden City Brewery. Clear, dark burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Toasty caramel malty, toffee, straw aroma. Low carbonation. A bit citrusy, hay, straw, toffee, caramel flavor. Alright but boring.

Had it on tap at the brewery this weekend. Pours a nice red color, not much head. Very smooth flavor. Nothing overwhelming, just a smooth drinking beer.

Tap at the brewpub. Amber with creamy off-white head. Light malty aroma. Med body/fizzy carb. Flavor is roast malt with a lot of hop bitter.

Tap at My Brother’s Bar - cloudy dark red - they nailed the style fairly well on this one, but some flaws keep it from being great - a fairly sturdy, sweet malt base, with notes of toffee and caramel - moderate hop bitterness - a sort of astringent, metallic character through the middle keeps it from being as enjoyable as it could be - lingering, sticky malt sweetness - fairly robust - okay.

Another one from the Golden City tasting. Poured from the tap a beautiful dark copper color, clear and nicely carbonated. The nose was biscuity and fairly inviting. On the palate, caramel malt nicely carried flavors of hersheys chocolate through to a nice lingering bitterness. A perfect spot on alt style beer--good, but not my favorite style.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 drjay44 (2126) - Salida, Colorado, USA - AUG 17, 2009
22 oz. bottle. Pours thinnish, lasting pale beige head with some lacing, over a clear, reddish amber (SRM 150 body......nose is primarily sweet (carmel) roasted (toffee) malts (cereal)with a bit of honey....taste initially is toffee, again honey, then extremely harsh, back of the tongue lingering bitterness. The bitterness is not the same as the usual pleasant, cleansing bitterness of hops. Mouth feel is medium, carbonation fairly high. I have had several Altbiers and this one is not good.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beaver (1057) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 7, 2009
22 oz bottle. The Legendary Red Ale pours a reddish amber with a frothy off-white head that quickly diminishes to a bubbly collar.
The aroma is sweet nutty malts, a little cola, burnt leather and maybe a touch of cinnamon.
The flavor is sweet buttery nutty malts and cola. The mouthfeel is medium bodied.
Overall, it’s very malt-forward and kind of strange and not quite to my liking. It seems to become more palatable as it warms. Fort Collins Brewery’s Retro Red is very similar in style, but I liked it better.

Bomber. Deep hazy copper in color with a little wisp of head. Malty sweet vegetable aroma. Thin bodied. Vegetable meaty cabbagy taste. Not good.
