3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 womencantsail (6896) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - SEP 8, 2011A: The beer pours a golden-amber color with about a finger of off-white head.
S: Sweet and fruity hops up front on this one. There are also some notes of grass and tropical fruits. Just a mild pine aroma with a touch of booze. Sweet malts finish things off.
T: Fairly sweet on the palate. There are some tropical fruit notes and a bit of citrus in the form of grapefruit and tangerine. Some sweet malt flavors of caramel and toffee with light booze and pine bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Some good hop flavors, but a touch too sweet and boozy.

Had it off the tap at the brewery. Great balanced IIPA. Lots of sticky malt flavors as well as hop bitterness. Very easy to drink and enjoy. I recommend.

this was a 9.3% double ipa on draft at gcb in golden. surprisingly well balanced. a nice amount of bittering hops to go with the 9.3% not a lot of alcohol taste which was pleasant. could use some more aroma but overall a good double ipa
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 wchesser (670) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 13, 2010
Good balance...9.5% does show through, but it’s got a really suprising sweetness upfront which was not was I was expecting. Still finished like an IPA with nice hopiness, but with good malt balance. Grapefruit and floral notes on the nose.

On draft at the Golden City tasting. I had had a bottle of this one a few weeks earlier and was thoroughly unimpressed. However from the moment I gazed at the glass containing this beautiful gold nectar my mind began to change. Although I (as well as the other tasters) detected a bit of green onion intially on the nose, it was quickly replaced with a blast of fresh citrus.
On the palate I was greeted with a nice flowery hop character. Although the alcohol is evident, a nice honey sweetness mellows the hop and leads to a nicely rounded finish. WOW!
A wonderful DIPA, one of the best beers I have tried this year. I could drink this one all night.
At the end of this tasting, we were treated to a sample of this beer aging in Stranahan’s whiskey barrels. Although palate fatigue had long since set in, this made a great beer even better. Although it poured nearly flat, the addition of vanilla/caramel notes and a nice warming whiskey character made this beer seem etheral. Definitley look for this one.

On-tap at the Falling Rock. They said it was the hoppiest beer on tap so I couldn’t resist. The color was a light orange yellow with the shortest of heads (small white bubbles). The taste was extremely hoppy, dank, floral and amazing. this was a very good beer. The drinkability was awesome. It was gone before I knew it. Be careful cause the 10.2% packs a mean punch!

On tap at the 2009 NABA. It’s nice to get some hefty beers on such a cold day. Pours a clear amber color with a large white head. The aroma was a nice citrus hop, light pine and medium malt notes. The flavor was aggressive and somehow not too strong; lots of citrus and grapefruit hops, light alcohol warmth, a decent malt and some caramel. Enjoyable for sure.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BeerandBlues2 (7418) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - APR 15, 2008
Draught at 6th Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy, white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (grain, hay, straw), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, pine, resin, grapefruit), average yeast (sweat) with notes of pear and peach. Medium bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackForestCO (958) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - APR 13, 2008
On tap. Poured a yellow-copper color with a thin white head that stuck around for a bit. Aroma of earthy, bitter hops with some citrus. Flavor consists of some malts, mostly grain and caramel, that lead into a earthy, slightly piney, citrus hop finish. Although it claims to be 150-ibu’s, it isn’t very bitter. Decent, just not as ass-kicking hoppy as I expected after reading the description.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2008 tap at falling rock. copper. thin head. huge fresh grassy, earthy, funky hop and perfume aroma. bitter beer face instantly. wet, sticky fresh hops. citrus. good malt backing but they can’t match the dump loads of hops. balance is all out of wack. I don’t really know what to think about this beer.
tap at brewery5/1/08. listed at 9.3 abv. much better than the first time I sampled this. delicious, full body, herbal, sticky malts and great balance. Almost a totally different experience. Lately I’ve been impressed with GC Brews.
