Bomber. Poured inky black with a dense, well-retained rich mocha head.. looked great in the glass! The aroma picked up a delicious bourbon and oaky impression upfront, with chocolate, vanilla, and smoked malts beneath.. rye biscuits and molasses provided an additional level of depth.. a little peppery on the back of the nose, picking up another hit of barrel. The flavor found tart oak and tangy bourbon throughout.. well-roasted and lightly-smoked black patent and blended chocolate malts at the core.. lots of dry roast, smoke, and tasty bourbon on the long, belly-warming finish. Medium-plus bodied and dry on the palate.. a little too much barrely sourness at times.. overall a very good brew!

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours new moon black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The bouquet furnishes fudge, caramel, toasted pistachios, toasted almonds and bourbon. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor offers caramel, fudge, vanilla and loads of mellow bourbon. Finishes caramely, chocolaty and bourbony. This is a bourbon lover’s imperial stout all the way, but there isn’t a lot of heat accompanying the nice bourbon essence. World class beer from a brewery that I had otherwise not caught wind of!

Bottle - Bourbon, Bourbon, and more Bourbon greatness and the beer is quite good too. Pours black with a medium body and light carbonation. Bourbon and vanilla hits you in the nose and it really smells great. You go in thinking it might be pretty hot, but actually the beer was very smooth. I think being only 8.5abv made this beer a very drinkable BA Imp Stout. Also, you get some vanilla and chocolate notes with some dark chocolate on the back end. I couldn’t put this beer down. Good job, Golden City!

Bottle @ home. 2011 Evan Williams barrel. Pours a deep black appearance with a dark brown head but not super thick like some barrel-aged stouts. Very rich whiskey (reminds me of a Rock Bottom whiskey stout or similar), light caramel and vanilla, some oak, mostly whiskey and roasty dark chocolate malts in the nose. Besides the whiskey, there’s a rich caramel/chocolate malty character to the flavor in addition to a somewhat hot, whiskey, oaky taste. A little hot and not super smooth. 7//4//7//4//13 (3.5)
