1.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 RogerRabbit (26) - Auckland, - NOV 18, 2011
On tap. There was good and bad here. If I look beyond a flaw it was a perfectly sessionable ale - however I think it had a mild infection. There was a distinctive spicy charachter I have come across before that I associate with a yeast infection. It was still drinkable, just not as it should have been for the style - which was apparent in both aroma and flavour.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2012 Pours amber with tan head. Sweet aroma with hints of coriander. Initial taste is nutty leading to a caramel biscuity bitter

Copper, rich and malty - quite traditional IPA in that respect. Hops provide bitterness and backbone.

caramel, toast, resin, grass, herbs, earthy, This Pale Ale pours a nice copper colour with a nice white head which lingers. The aroma is slightly hoppy with herbal notes coming through. The taste is a little caramel with a nice blend of hop resinous flavours flowing accross the tongue falling away slowly to a nice bitterness which accentuates the malt profile. Carbonation is just right and helps preserve a thin head through to the bottom of the glass!

I know nothing of the finer points of beer tasting, but I do know this is a mighty fine pint. I was very happy to find it in my local supermarket last week.

Coppery-bronze in colour with a good fluffy cream coloured head with greenish tinges. The smell is at first and foremost grassy and herbaceous and then there’s a creamy Edam cheese note. A comment from my learned off-sider was that if you were nosing this blindfold, you could be forgiven for thinking it is reminiscent of Chartreuse. The flavours upon tasting are a big rush of bitterness and a lovely sherberty mouthfeel, candied orange peel, tomato stalks. There’s a broad array of flavours to pick out, which I love. I am delighted not only to review this beer, but also to stock it. Big like, a future classic.
