For the Spring 2014 Release in our Custom IPA Series we’ve partnered with the LA River Revitalization Corp to brew 2020 IPA—a dark red IPA, with a rich pine aroma, light roast, all balanced by a hearty hop bitterness. 2020 IPA celebrates the Greenway 2020 Project, which will connect 51 miles of the LA River—transforming it from a neglected, concrete riverbed to a connected, public green space by the year 2020.

It might have been that I just have higher expectations for a "craft" IPA, but this one was well below my expectations. More of a session beer than a full IPA.

Sweet with some soft carbonation and a frothy mouthfeel. A working man’s IPA without much complexity. 2020’s nose is salt water taffy and lime. Golden Road has yet to produce a stunning India Pale Ale.

Nose is distinct of pine hops. Starts a bit malty. Mouth feel is medium bodied and a bit carbonated. Finishes with a piney hop bite. Taste very fresh. One of the best beers from golden road I’ve had.

Can - pours clear blood orange, large puffy beige head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, forest floor, caramel. Light sweet and light bitter, less maltiness than expected from the color. Kind of boring, actually. Fairly light body.

From a 500 ml can. Hazy red color. Rocky off white head. Aroma’s: rasinous, some caramel, some citrus (more citrus after a while). Retronasal there’s caramel sweetness and citrus fruit, some hop bitterness. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate bitter, dark malts, caramel. Medium bodied. Finishes with a moderate bitterness. Decent, but certainly not mind blowing.

Can split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Bruce, 27/03/14. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is pine, bitter grapefruit, bitter citrics, juicy hop, light booze, floral tones. Taste comprises pine bite, floral hop, juicy citric, orange pith, mandarin, light spice, mineral pangs. Medium boided, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the close. Solid IPA.

Can. Not too bad, good citrus flavor and a nice hoppy finish. Very easy to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Bruce for this can. Lightly hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate with light fine minerally carbonation. Smooth malt base, little cream. Nice hope - fresh tasting pine with a little fresh orange. Little citric peel bitterness. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Nice smooth light IPA.

Can @ home. Dark amber pour with a finger of khaki foam. Not a good start. Smells of intense woody, piney hops with a touch of grapefruit. Sweet caramel malts, brown sugar, and peach. Mild orange zest. Taste is very sweet and malt forward. Big caramel and toasted bread with some brown sugar. Mild citrus peel. Lots of pine, resin, and grassy hop notes on the finish.
