On tap and into a snifter. Pours with a hazed golden hued body with a white head that lasts. Aromas are a bit mellow, grainy, bready wheat characteristics, some honey, floral and vanilla notes. A bit spicy, very mild barrel. Some bubble gum and other esters. Muted hefe yeast esters and phenolics, not much barrel. Flavors of mild higher alcohols, grainy, wheat, bready. Light spicy barrel, floral honey. Honestly kind of bland. Lighter carbonation. A bit of a chalky character.

I was expecting to not like this since I am not a big tequila fan but the slight addition from the barrel and the hefeweizen really work well together. Two parts making a bigger whole. The banana tastes a little carmelized and there is a nice little kick to it.

I drank this at the brewery with 3 others. All of us are beer nerds and we had a mixed reaction to the beer. I absolutely love it, but it’s subtle and you have to go in with an open mind. Layers upon layers of flavors and aromas make this a wonderful beer to drink slowly and savor. This is more like a classic drama and less like an action film. One member of my group didn’t care for it much and let me finish his, though I had to fight for it because my girlfriend fell in love with it. He claimed it was without any distinctive flavor, a claim 3 of us dispute. The fourth member of the group claimed that the graininess of the wheat was overpowering the subtle tequila essence and that it should have spent more time in the barrel. My palate might nit be as developed as his, but I know one thing for sure. This is a delightful beer chalk full of surprises and lingering subtleties. I was still thinking about it this morning. Just might have to go back for another one today.
