Slight tropical fruit mixed with the malts on the nose. Soft and fuzzy texture. Slightly spiced taste.

Tropical punch aromas. Surprisingly strong melanoidins dominate what I assumed to be a more hop forward brown. Slight pine that hacks at the malt. Well balanced.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer is a deep brown color with a medium thick foamy light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing. Roasted malt, caramel and hops in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, caramel and mild earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a burnt malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance was clear ruby brown with creamy diminishing beige 1/2 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are roasted barley, nut, toffee, coffee, chocolate, marzipan and fruity ester yeasts, no alcohol. Taste are soft sweet toffee, slight coffee bitterness with pale chocolate and mineral backend. Palate was soft CO2 with light- medium body, lasting English style drying finish. Overall a little thin on body and CO2 for me, but solid brown. Needs more chocolate malt?

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour is a very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is some brown malt mocha with a bit of soapiness. Flavor is some chocolate malt and not much after that. It is a bit bitter after the swallow but Iím not sure thatís what they were going for. Itís a brown ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a much better brown ale than itís ratings would suggest. I donít understand why that is. nice body, beautiful caramel and nutty aromas, mild malt sweetness but dry enough to be clean on the palate. All around classic and well made.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 3, 2015 16 oz. can from Whole Foods. Nose is inviting with faint coffee, caramel and yeast Taste opens with earthy tones, a hint of chocolate and toasted brown bread. Somewhat malty, good carbonation and semi drying close. All in all, not earth shattering but a tasty, very drinkable and exemplary brown ale.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
12oz can -
Aroma - white sugar bag, brown bread mix, mineral water and tea leaves
Appearance - deep mahogany brown body, semi-clear, super light tan head, light retention
Mouthfeel - medium body, light carbonation, somewhat dull, yet sticky
Flavor - something weird here. Tea leaves, banana, light cocoa, seems overly sweet.
Overall - while very affordable, it was a let down and frankly a poor example of a pedestrian style of beer. How does one mess up a brown ale?
