Nice thick tan head. Deep burgundy colored body. Good malty aroma. Malts carry over into the flavor as well. Definitely a good example of a brown in my book. Only bought a single can. But, will definitely buy the whole four-pack the next time around that I’m looking for something not loaded with hops.

Fad: I lufthavnen i LAX.

Looks and smells great, but the was a bit shallow in terms of flavor. I really like Golden Road overall, and think they have the right branding and ideas, but it just seems like their beers are brewed at a huge scale where you lose the quality control that other craft brewers work so hard to keep.

16 oz can from bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head and a smoky aroma. There is a light-bodied brown malt flavor that is both sweet and smoky.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours very dark clear copper (against strong light) with a slight yellow/beige head. Aroma is nutty, lightly dark treacle, and hinting at smoke. Med body. Flavor is greasy/nutty, enough treacle to suggest cola, and there seems to be a low level smoke. Maybe not. Nut aspect could be confusing me. Certainly one of the tastier browns I can recall.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on tap in a plastic cup at an LAX airport bar during a World Cup game. It poured an opaque very dark brown with thin but persistent beige foam. Dark colour but light body and dry finish. Sounds like Guinness, but more complex grainbill: hints of bread, dark toast, chocolate, bright acidity of medium roast coffee, mildly fruity, nice hoppy bittering balance, with a lingering multilayered aftertaste. Very flavourful. It was extremely toasty, but I didn’t notice the smoked malt mentioned in the description. Strong carbonation makes it even more refreshing. Good stuff. If it were local, I’d buy it regularly.

Can in our hotel room, San Diego, from Public Beer LB, 18/04/14.
Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed light tan covering that retains well.
Nose is light roast, toffee, nutty pangs, brown bread, hint of cocoa.
Taste carries a little less depth than the aroma, earthy tones, light smoke, biscuit, brown bread, faint cocoa.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
At LAX while waiting to fly home to Dallas. 20 oz draft that cost $10.89. Pours dark brown black with huge creamy wicked looking head that drops to nothing. Aroma is nutmeg, lightly roasted malt, with a hint of Guinness-esque tanginess. Taste is lightly roasted malt, the same tanginess, sweet malt.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours very dark brown, almost black. The darkest brown ale I've ever seen. Thin off-white head. Nose is faint malt with chocolate notes. Taste is sweet. Full body, thick and rich, lively carbonation. Pretty tasty, albeit a bit too sweet.
