Very solid brown ale. Itís hard to give any brown ale a super high score, but this one really delivers what you want in an easy drinking session ale.
Not too chocolate heavy, not too bubbly. I think this is a british style brown as opposed to the sweeter American style version.

Pours a clear rich copper color with a nice thick head. Aroma is choc and nuts and malt. Taste follows the Aroma very well. Smooth easy drinking brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Body:Sweet roasted, hint of smooth chocolate. Light bitter hoppyness
Finish:Dry, sweet and more roasted and toasted flavors.
Over-all/Mouth-feel: Medium body. Sweeter than the normal west coast browns. The best beer from Golden Road I have tried so far.

Growler. Rating #1. Clear brown pour with a dirty white head. Nice toasted aroma with a light sweetness. Flavor is similar, nice toast with an underlying sweetness. Tasty stuff. (2137)

Tasted on tap in a plastic cup at an LAX airport bar during a World Cup game. It poured an opaque very dark brown with thin but persistent beige foam. Dark colour but light body and dry finish. Sounds like Guinness, but more complex grainbill: hints of bread, dark toast, chocolate, bright acidity of medium roast coffee, mildly fruity, nice hoppy bittering balance, with a lingering multilayered aftertaste. Very flavourful. It was extremely toasty, but I didnít notice the smoked malt mentioned in the description. Strong carbonation makes it even more refreshing. Good stuff. If it were local, Iíd buy it regularly.

Best brown I have ever had. Smoky, hoppy with distinctive chocolatey malt. Excellent! Would drink again!! Great head...

Aluminum can from Sproutís: Poured dark leather brown which was propped with frothy topping of foam head that left behind plenty of lacing. Aroma was mild yet pleasant with a scent of lightly toasted malts and touch of assorted nuts that have been roasted. The flavor is bland and has a minor toasty nut flavor but other than that itís dull and reminds me of wet cardboard at moments.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours very dark clear copper (against strong light) with a slight yellow/beige head. Aroma is nutty, lightly dark treacle, and hinting at smoke. Med body. Flavor is greasy/nutty, enough treacle to suggest cola, and there seems to be a low level smoke. Maybe not. Nut aspect could be confusing me. Certainly one of the tastier browns I can recall.

Nice thick tan head. Deep burgundy colored body. Good malty aroma. Malts carry over into the flavor as well. Definitely a good example of a brown in my book. Only bought a single can. But, will definitely buy the whole four-pack the next time around that Iím looking for something not loaded with hops.
