3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Can from Trader Joe’s in Davis, CA. Pours clear gold with a transient white head. Aroma is a lot of grapefruit rind. Med body or nearly. Flavor is a lot of grapefruit rind, but there’s not a lot of caramel. Malt, but rather pale. Very interesting and unusual. It’s quite hoppy and bitter in the finish. Working very well for me.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear golden yellow with a solid two-finger head that left a smooth film and very nice lace. Big grapefruit aromas up front, with biscuity malts and strong pine note coming later. Taste is mostly hop bitterness, with enough of a doughy malt presence to create a nice balance, though the hops certainly win the day. Medium to full body, generous carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a crisp bitter finish.

Thanks to jdurdz for sharing this can. Clear golden pour with a white head. The aroma has some heavy pine and orange citrus notes as well as some biscuit malt. The flavor is more of the same. I get some nice bitter orange and resinous pine notes as well as some sweet biscuit malt. Medium bitterness and lots of hop flavor. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft at Tap 25. It pours a light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is super citrusy with some mild dank notes and butterscotch. The flavor is citrusy and dank with some butterscotch sweetness. It finishes dry and bitter. Nice, but I could do without the butterscotch.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2014 A decent IPA, one of Golden Road’s better offerings but not quite top-notch. I prefer this to both the old and new Point The Way. Nice grapefruit aroma. I’ve found it to be a bit better on tap than canned, but perhaps that’s a freshness issue.
2014 update: Drinking a can, about 2 weeks old. Seems like a nice improvement over last year’s version. Bigger, fresher hop flavor than I recall. Citra, Centennial and Nelson come through. Pour is light gold, very transparent. The last time I revisited Point The Way it was also pretty good and I feel like Golden Road might be stepping their game up.

Golden, lighter pour with a bit of foam. Sharp hoppy aroma with a bit of rock candy sweetness. Lighter in body than I generally prefer. Kind of piney and medium bitter.
Would I drink again? probably.
Would I buy/order again? not likely, too many other go to IPA’s that make a bigger statement and are much more balanced.

Golden, light white head. Very carbonated. Somewhat like a real bitter coors. Nice that it is in a can. There are better IPAs out there, as there are worse.
