Opaque black with a dense one-finger khaki head, solid retenetion and a nice curtain of lace. Aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee beans, and cocoa powder. Taste is similar - dark roasted malt, bittersweet cocoa, and coffee. Medimu body, minimal carbonation, smooth and creamy mouthfeel and a bittersweet baker’s chocolate finish.

Pours a black color with a clean simple malt aroma. Taste is dry, mild coco flavor mixed with toast. A little to dry for my palate. Not a flavorful beer, its a simple dry stout. Overall an okay beer.

3/18/12 notes: nitro Draft. Mineral, ash, light body some slightly distracting fruity yeast esters. Body is a bit too thin for nitro, needs some more effervescent zip. OK.

Black color with tan sheen. Dry black malt, chocolate, smoke aromas. medium body. Dry chocolate flavors with smoke, and a blackened malt bitterness--almost good.

Clear blackish pour, lighter head. Nitro pour. Aroma of roasted malt, prunes and some earthy hops. Flavor is hoppy, roasted, and a tad too light in flavor.

Typical nitro pour to this. Black in color with a creamy tan head. Nose is somewhat watery. A bit of roast, maybe a little coffee and dark chocolate. The flavor is quite bland. As with the aroma, light roast, coffee, and chocolate. Mild earthy hop notes. Body is weak at best. Unoffensive, innocuous, but just not something I’d care to drink.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and light liqourice. Smooth malty, dark breadish and light liqourice. Smooth dark malty finish.

Tap at Golden Road. Clear deep ruby to near black pour. Medium carbonation. Spotty lacing. Nose is dirt, small toffee, caramel. Fairly muted. Taste is soy, dirt, very bitter. No off flavors, just weak with not much of anything. Earthy and dirty grain with a very watery palate. Makes sense for style, but needs to be on nitro. If it was, well then my pour did not look like that at all. No creaminess from the nitro.
