Pours a dark reddish/brown and boy does the alcohol NOT sneak up. It is right there. This is a hybrid type of barley wine to me. Has some imperial IPA action but also some red ale notes and a little brown as well. Not much hops but does warm a body up on the rare cold days on the pub’s patio.

On tap snifter at brewery:
I wanna just write MEH! but alas descriptors are necessary to communicate the blandness contained within this brew. Aroma is malts, super light carmel, and really just sweet malts not much depth or complexity at all. Appearance is reddish brown with a head that fades rapidly. Taste is sweet with some non descript hop light bitterness and no aroma of note. Palate is not thick and sticky and not dry. middle of the road. Overall imagine an amazing english barleywine with all of it’s malty complexity, its toffee and caramel flavors with perhaps a bit of cherry and stone fruits, THIS IS NOT THAT. Imagine an amazing American Barlewine with a nice interplay of bitterness and toffe caramel flavors backed by grapfruit and currants with a nice bitterness. THIS IS NOT THAT!!! Now imagine someone made a 10% beer that sorta tastes like not much and sorta smells like not much and sorta goes down like not much. WHALLAH!!!! THIS IS THAT!!!!

Strong Ale 2012. An amber pour with an off-white head. Floral and citrus hop aromas. A decent amount of dark fruit, some pine, toffee, and malt sweetness of toffee and caramel. There’s a pretty decent floral, citrus, and pine hop character to the flavor. Some caramel malt sweetness, a bit of fruit, yeast, and alcohol. Very mild hop bitterness.
