COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by an American Pre-Prohibition Cream Ale (that we tasted using a time machine) the Summer Babe is tropical fruit on the nose and a subtle malt body with a stunningly clean bitterness that belies its paleness

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2010 Whoa - she’s a bitter one this! So much so, the balance just isn’t there for me. Though I enjoyed tasting the Simcoe for something different.

Tap at Pomeroy’s. Pours very pale golden, white head with great retention. Sexy.
Aroma - not so sexy. The hops are a little too intense and end up a little vomity. Smells like a simcoe APA I made but 10x stronger.
Flavour is good though, with heaps of bitterness making it dry and quenching. The hops are very tropical, thin body. This babe looks great, but needs some deodorant.

Nice passion fruit and floral hops but extremely sharp, thin body. Toward the end a bit astringent -

What a beer! I was not expecting this. What should be a mildly flavoured exercise in subtlety was an education in the use of hops. And what hops. What I mistook for kiwi hops (all mango, passionfruit, and guava) turned out to be none other than a heavy dose of US high alpha hops - Columbus and Simcoe. What a beer. Whatever the hops were, they were present at every layer. This was an exercise in nuance, with hop flavour pervading every aspect of the beer, yet managing to leave a sweet biscuity malt note behind. I think this might well be my kiwi beer of the year and it’s only March.
