COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A small batch, wine barrel aged Imperial Stout. This rich, powerful stout was aged in Panther Creek Cellars French Oak barriques for almost two months, adding a dimension of oak flavors. This Imperial Stout is lush and full on the palate with a lingering finish.

What a chocolate aroma! Smooth combination of coffee and chocolate malts. Anything cask aged tends to meld much more. A bowed head and raised fist for the Black Panther Stout.

Bottle shared by JoeTheYounger... Pours black with a ring brown head... Aroma is sweet dark chocolate and alcohol..Vinous with some dark chocolate and coco powder.. Thin... Good beer but I have never been much for the fruit/wine barrel aged stouts.

Bottle from DA. DARK black pour with chestnut brown head. Aroma is chocolate syrup and lactose. Taste is bitter chocolate bar with a tangy finish and a nice oak presence. Different yet tasty.

Many, many thanks to Derek for tracking this down for me!! this was on my Want List for the longest time! Poured near-clear medium-deep brown with a short cap of dark tan head.. looked decent. The aroma opened with sour oak, vinous notes, and cherry pie filling, covering a lot of ground before the stout came through.. warm, moderately-roasted sweeter chocolates and coffee down there.. after a few minutes to breathe, a very interesting interplay of black cherries, vinous notes, and oak over quasi-sweet chocolates rounded it out.. tart overall and a few hairs shy of "imperial". The flavor opened with tart black cherry jam and oak, sliding into roasty, semi-sweet chocolates fairly smoothly.. molasses and coffee joined on the middle, with some of the coffee bitterness extending to join the barrel on the edges.. mostly cherries, vinous notes, and oak from the barrel on the finish, with a lingering hit of sweet chocolates and a touch of smoke. Slick and a little oily on the palate with low carbonation.. quite tart with a huge barrel presence.. medium-bodied.. a bit tacky with the flow. This was a solid beer with plenty of interesting character, but it needed more malt substance and body.

Thanks to either Eric, Cliff, or Mike for this imperial stout. It was so-so as far as they go. Unlike the previous one there were no major weaknesses but at the same time it wasn’t very impressive. I’d rate this as below average but not the worst of the bunch.

Aroma / Appearance - The beige head was a bit light for an imperial stout. The oily black body was mostly spot on however as were the sheets of clear lacing. Smoky green apples were the biggest flaw indicating this might have been a little fresh. Dark chocolate, prunes, and other flavors were slightly odd. It was a bit thin bodied but still solid.

Flavor / Palate - Heavy dark chocolate brought to mind watered down Southern Tier imperial stouts. The smell of a warm cup of black coffee amid the smokiness of a bowling alley added some depth. For what was there it felt too heavy. Overall I feel kind of indifferent. Hopefully other Golden Valley beers are better (like the IPAs).

Nose of chocolate, coffee, roast, brown sugar, very light wine barrel - wood/tart tannins.Black as night pour with a creamy/frothy tan head and some whispy sticky lace. Chocolate, wine barrel, vanilla, woody dryness, roast up front. More chocolatey sweetness is there along with some earthy hops. More woody barrel and wine barrel tannin notes. Solid. Reminds me a bit of Beserker except like its lighter little brother. Nice soft carbonation with solid lingering sweetness and some dryness as well. Could use a bit more body imo but this is solid stuff.

Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom! It’s pitch black with a small, dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee, just the way I like coffee in a beer, but it also has notes of roasted malt and chocolate, The flavor has notes of slightly sweet coffee, coffee and coffee, but also a little oak and chocolate. It’s not very complex, but the notes are so clean and harmonic, and it’s very easy to drink. In the beginning I didn’t really notice that it was a bit watery, but towards the end of the bottle I do, and that’s a pity in this so nice beer.

Bottle:   Nearly black, dark brown highlights, moderate frothy light brown head, spotty lacing.   Seems like an Impy Stout to me.   Roasted malt nose, graham cracker, slight soy, otherwise a smidgen of lactose sweetness and burnt cocoa.   Fairly similar on the tongue.   Unlike many Imperial Stouts, this one is not overly hopped.   Seems smooth enough, good body and mouthfeel.   Nothing about this puts me off.   Not over the top, just a solid example of the style.   Lingering malt sweetness, slight charred wood, with a finish of soft burnt malts and cocoa.   Good stuff!

Thanks for the bottle Andre! 22 oz bottle poured into a snifter produced a dark black color with little head. There was minimal lacing throughout the sample. I found this beer to be very tasty with a heavy roasted malt profile, chocolate and oak/vanilla. The carbonation felt out of kilter and it was a little thin. If I had this beer during a blind tasting I would have thought that it was a porter. Anyhow, this beer was tasty and if they can fix the carbonation and thinness then they will have a stellar product.

22. Pours jet black with a dense, creamy tan head. Not much lacing. Interesting notes of carob, oaky vanilla, and chocolate on the nose. Creamy body, rather hefty, actually. Roast, chocolate, carob, oak, and toasted nuts on the mid-palate. The oakiness has made the beer go a bit watery, unfortunately, but they can tune that next time without altering the beer significantly. Nice, dimensional, rewarding stuff that drinks pretty easily.
